Obituary

Suzanne “Suzie” Thornton Lane, peacefully took her final breath Sunday evening, December 16, 2018 in Angleton, Texas with her children at her side. She was born on October 12, 1946 in Port Arthur, Texas to the late Fred Thornton and Dorothy Rose Simmons Thornton. She was a graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School and Lamar University – Beaumont. She resided in Southeast Texas for the majority of her life until 2007, when she moved to El Campo with her late husband and the love of her life, James “Jim” Noel Lane.

Suzie was a school teacher for nearly 30 years before she retired in 2011. Her love for people and history made her electric in the classroom and a favorite among her students.

A woman of many talents, Suzie was a writer, a teacher, a director, a seamstress, an artist, a pianist, a lover of musicals and a phenomenal story teller who loved traveling and spending time out on the water. She was known for her gregarious personality, free-spiritedness, and fierce loyalty to her family. More than anything, Suzie was most proud of her children, their spouses, and her 5 grandchildren who referred to her as “Nana.”

Suzie is leaving behind a legacy that will ask all who knew her to love each other deeply, to support family and friends with the purest intentions, to find the humor in even the saddest situations, and to remember that above all else, Jesus Christ is to be at the center of it all.

Suzie is preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Dorothy Rose Simmons Thornton (Port Arthur, Texas); husband, James “Jim” Noel Lane (El Campo, Texas); and sister, Patricia “Pat” Middleton (Blairsville, Georgia).

She is survived by her brother, Arthur W. Thornton and his wife Dianne Thornton (LaFollette, Tennessee); son, Aaron Fredrick Pardue (Angleton, Texas), his wife, Rebecca “Becky” Pardue, and their sons, Aaron “AJ” Fredrick, Jr., Andrew James, and John Adam; son, Adam Dwight Pardue, his wife, Angela “Angie” Pardue, and their daughters, Avery Lynne and Abbey Layne; daughter, Sarah Elizabeth Kouba and her husband, Justin Kouba (Houston, Texas); step-daughter, Tamara Wood and husband James “Jim” Wood (Austin, Texas); step-son, Kevin Lane and wife Deborah Lane (Crosby, Texas); step-son Brian Lane and wife Angie Recitas (Tomball, Texas);

A memorial service will be held in her honor at 10:00AM on Saturday, December 29, 2018 at her home church, Northway Baptist Church in Angleton, Texas.

Flowers are accepted; however, if you wish, you may choose in lieu of flowers to support your local school district, church, or soup kitchen in Suzie’s honor. Contributions may also be sent directly to MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas.

Sweet, sweet lady. So, sorry to hear about Susie. I worked with her at El Campo Middle School. Susie was a great lady and always shared interesting stories. She showed her love for her children and grandchildren by having their photos in her classroom on display for her students and colleagues to view. Susie loved teaching and helping her students learn about history. Her students enjoyed her friendly and caring personality. Blessings. Cindy Witcher El Campo, TX

I consider it an honor to be among Suzie's many friends. She was a very special woman, a big heart, so full of life, humor and love of family. We were very close for years in Beaumont, regretfully not as close since we retired to Colorado. We shared a lot of joy, a few tears, our children's weddings, grandchildren and some crazy times. Suzie is unforgettable and will always have a special place in my heart and memory. My love and prayers are with Suzie's precious family at this time. Bobbie Blake
