Ann Holcombe long-time resident of Angleton, TX passed away peacefully in Richmond, TX on Friday, January 1st, 2021. Encircled by her loved ones in her home, Ann entered into the eternal kingdom of God. A Graveside Service will be held on Wednesday, January 6, 2020 at 10:30am in Angleton Cemetery, followed by a Visitation at First United Methodist Church from 11-11:30am and Memorial Service at 11:30 am. In Lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to Angleton First United Methodist Church or The American Heart Association. Ann was born August 18th, 1925, in the small town of Horatio, Arkansas to Henry and Sadie Jones. She grew up surrounded by family who included many aunts, uncles, cousins, and close friends. In her eyes, all holidays meant a family reunion. World War II changed her senior year in high school. Girls continued to jitterbug to big band records, either with the few remaining boys or with each other. Gas was rationed, and that meant you walked many places. Ann graduated valedictorian from Horatio High School and received a degree from Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas. Upon graduating, she received both the English award and a teaching degree. She taught school in the small towns of England and Horatio, Arkansas. In 1948, Ann married James Holcombe, a fellow high school classmate. James served as a flight instructor for three years in the Air Force. Once settled, the couple lived in West Columbia, TX. Three years later, they moved to Angleton, TX where Ann taught English for several years. Ann and James anticipated starting a family and were blessed by the arrival of a baby daughter, and later, a baby son. Ann stood by her husband throughout his life and his many active roles in the community. One of her proudest moments was when James became the owner of Holcombe Motors Inc. Ann was secure in her faith as a member of First United Methodist Church. She was committed to attending the Mary Martha Sunday school class, Rebecca's circle, and was a member of United Methodist Women. Furthermore, she was a Charter Member of the Angleton Study Forum. Ann enjoyed playing bridge with some of her closest friends in The Wednesday Bridge Club for many years. Along with five other 90-year-old teachers, she was honored by the Angleton Alumni Association and School District in 2016. She was proceeded in death by her husband, mother and father, and brother-in-law Dick Johnson. Survived by her sister Jo Nell Johnson, cousin Mike Nix, daughter Debbie and her husband Andy Johnson of Pecan Grove; Son Rex of Angleton, grandchildren Bradley and Joy Stanaland, Ryan Stanaland and his girlfriend Carla, and Hillary Ann and Zachary Britton, and Goddaughters Nevin Cunningham and Stephanie Yoes.
