Francis Harvey Martin

September 11, 1927 — September 4, 2014

On Thursday Sept. 4, 2014 Francis Harvey Martin went home to be with his Lord and Savior. Harvey was born Jan. 23, 1927 in Mora La. to Fate and Elizabeth Martin. He loved spending time with his family and friends. He was a long time member of Gulf Coast Bible Church in Sweeney, Tx., where he was an active and dedicated member of the congregation. He volunteered his time delivering Meals on Wheels and at the Sr. Citizens Center in West Columbia. Harvey served his country in the United States Air Force during WW II and took great pride in doing so. Through hard work and dedication, Harvey was able to remain in the Air Force Reserves and retire as a Sr Master Sergeant. He accomplished this while working full time in Industrial Security at Dow Chemical from which he later retired after 30+ years. He was not one to just sit around, in fact his motto was "if you sit down you die" so he went to work as a greeter at Wal-Mart in West Columbia. He enjoyed being able to see people that he knew and meeting new people, he was a fixture there for 10+ years. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers; Alonzo, Willie, Floyd, Ernest, and sister Jewel. Harvey is survived by his wife Jeanette, children Francine and husband Syd, Vincent and wife Cindy, Jeff, Cheryl and husband Ralph, Marla, Kim and husband James as well as his sister Ruby, 16 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Harvey will also be missed his many nieces and nephews and other extended family. A celebration of Harvey's life will be Saturday Sept. 6, 2014 at Gulf Coast Bible Church in Sweeny, Texas.
