Joseph Kenneth Anzalone, a beloved teacher, cherished companion, and passionate musician, passed away on November 18, 2023, at the age of 91. Born in Jamestown, NY, on November 26, 1931, Joseph was the son of Samuel and Jenny Anzalone. He was a devoted brother to Valentine Anzalone and a loving uncle to his nephew Jimmy Anzalone and nieces Valerie, Vickie, and Vanessa.
Joseph's love for music began at a young age, and he pursued his passion by earning a bachelor’s and master’s degree in music education from the State University of New York at Fredonia. After completing his education, he proudly served as a band director in the United States Army during the Korean War.
Following his military service, Joseph embarked on a fulfilling career as a high school music teacher at Hutchenson Central Technical High School in Buffalo, NY, where he inspired countless students during his tenure from 1960 until his retirement. Joseph's dedication to his craft and his ability to instill a love for music in his students left an indelible mark on the community.
Joseph found companionship and love with Christine S Maricle, with whom he shared a joyful bond for 56 years until her passing in 2019. He became a cherished stepfather to Charles E Maricle, daughter-in-law Xia Yang, and loving grandfather to Zi Yang and Charles Y Maricle. In 2020, Joseph found solace in the company of Joette Baumgarten, who brought him comfort and companionship during his sunset years.
Throughout his retirement, Joseph fulfilled his lifelong dream of exploring the world. His insatiable curiosity led him to visit over 30 countries, from the vibrant streets of China to the picturesque landscapes of Sicily, the bustling city of Sydney to the rich history of Warsaw. His adventures enriched his life and provided him with cherished memories that he treasured.
Recognized as a talented composer and arranger, Joseph created a multitude of beautiful musical pieces throughout his lifetime. His creative spirit touched the hearts of many, leaving a lasting impact on those who were fortunate enough to experience his compositions.
Joseph possessed a competitive spirit and a passion for the sport of Racquetball. He mentored numerous players and continued to play the sport he loved until the remarkable age of 90, embodying perseverance and vitality.
Joseph's unconditional love extended beyond humans, as he embraced the companionship of three precious dogs throughout his lifetime: Henrietta, Muffy, and Bella. Their loyal presence brought him immeasurable joy and cherished memories.
A celebration of Joseph's remarkable life, filled with love, music, and memories, will be held later. The ceremony will include veterans' military honors, paying tribute to his dedicated service in the US Army, followed by a burial at sea conducted by the United States Coast Guard.
Joseph Kenneth Anzalone will forever be remembered as a dynamic teacher, a talented musician, a devoted companion, and a passionate traveler. His gentle spirit and unwavering love will forever inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him. Joseph's legacy lives on through the countless lives he touched and the harmonies he shared with the world.
