Robert Dalmon 'Doc' Hurst Sr.

December 20, 1928 — December 12, 2015

Dr. Robert Dalmon Hurst, Sr., 94, of Angleton, went to be with the Lord, December12, 2015. "Doc" as most called him, loved people and seemed to know everyone. He joined his wife of 66 years, Evelyn V. Marek and his oldest son, Dr. Robert D. Hurst, Jr. that preceded him in death. He leaves his daughter, Susan & John Shepard of San Antonio, son, Timothy & Barbara Hurst of Angleton, and daughter-in-law, Clara Jo Hurst of Angleton, six grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren with one more soon. He was born in Jolly, Texas, to Ada T. Cruse and Robert Lee Hurst on December 28, 1920 but was raised in the Damon area. Robert joined the Coast Guard in 1942 and spent most of WW-II with the navy in the Philippines. After his return, he attended Palmer Chiropractic College in Davenport, Iowa. After graduation, he began his practice in Needville, but moved to Angleton in 1954. After many years of successful practice, he retired and turned the practice over to Robert Jr. Robert Sr. also served on the Angleton city council in the 1960's, past president of the Kiwanis Club, served on the government affairs committee of the Angleton Chamber of Commerce and past commander of American Legion post 350. He was a 60 year member and teacher of First Baptist Church of Angleton. Robert was a loving son, brother, dad, father, and grandfather, who loved fishing, hunting and polka dancing. He could be counted on to help his family and others whenever needed. He was raised in a family of 4 brothers and 2 sisters during the Great Depression. His oldest brother passed away in the 20s and he lost his dad when he was 15 years old. Robert was the only member of his family to complete college. He became the family caretaker of his mom, brothers and other relatives and friends. He will be greatly missed by many. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to be sent to the Angleton Christian School. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 5:30pm to 7:30pm December 15th at First Baptist Church Angleton. Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM Wednesday, December 16 at First Baptist Church in Angleton, with interment in Angleton Cemetery.
