William Edward "Billy" Simons Funeral services for Billy Simons of Angleton, Brazoria County, Texas are set for 2:00pm Monday, October 21, 2013 at Palms Funeral Home Chapel, Burial will follow in Angleton Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, October 20, 2013 from 6:00-8:00pm for friends & family at Palms Funeral Home Chapel, located at 2300 E Mulberry in Angleton, Texas. Billy was born August 27, 1927 in Houston, Harris County, Texas to Samuel Lafayette Simons and Lilly Mae Blevins Simons. Preceded him in death are his parents, brothers; Arnold Samuel Simons, Garvis Wilson"Garbo" Simons, Robert Archie "Bobby" Simons Sr., sisters: Rosa Mozell Simons Terrill, Margaret Simons, Rose Smith and Sharra Jean Simons Brawner. Billy is survived by his wife of 67 years Madge Avanell Sneed Simons of Angleton, Texas, his daughter Wanda Joy Simons Craig & husband Owen Eugene Craig of Angleton, Texas, grandson; David Aaron Craig & wife Amanda Stone Craig, granddaughter; Suzanne Elizabeth Craig of Lake Jackson, Texas, great grandson; Dakota Aaron Craig, Great Granddaughter; Paisley Grace Craig both of Danbury, also numerous Nieces & Nephews & Friends Billy was a "worker" he shined shoes on the streets of Angleton, Texas. Billy parched peanuts and sold them for 5cents a bag, sold watermelons for Farmers at a stand, delivered & put up posters for Politicians, was a projector operator at the Old Downtown Angleton Theater, and sold theater tickets & popcorn at the theater for Luther & Nell Copeland, was a Carpenter helper, helped make bricks at the Angleton Fairgrounds for the Building that housed WWII prisoners. Billy loved to Fish, Shrimp, Oyster & Garden. He joined the Navy at the age of 17 serving his country during WWII in the Pacific from Angleton to Shang Hi China. Returning home in 1956 with an Honorable discharge & staying in the Naval Reserves for 8 more years getting a second Honorable discharge in 1954. On Saturday, September 28, 1946 at 4:00pm in Danbury, Texas at the Minister's home of the First Baptist Church of Danbury he married Madge Avanell Sneed from Crosby, Harris Co., Texas, and were married 67 Years. Billy worked in the Oilfields as a Roustabout then as an oiler on a dragline teaching himself how to operate it for Mr. Fred Lane. In 1954 Billy went into business for himself as a dragline contractor "W.E. Simons Dragline" and operated his own machine that lasted for 50 years. He worked for many local Rice Farmers in Brazoria Co., Danbury plus many others, also different drainage Districts, The City of Angleton and out of Angleton and Brazoria Co.. His favorite song was "Red River Valley." Pallbearers: Joe Peltier, Patrick Fuchs, Troy Baldwin, Leroy Bieri, Stewart Bieri, Bud Beacom and Freck LeCompte Honorary Pallbearers: Jimmy Enos, Emil Ritz, Raymond LeCompte. A special Thank You goes to a group of very special people "The IPH Health," of Angleton, and The Pointe in Webster, TX, that have been so caring and helpful and each and every one of you know who you are.
