Anton A. (Jake) Mutina, Sr., 82, passed away April 24, 2012 in Sweeny, Texas. Anton was born June 22, 1929 on the Figure Four Ranch in Richmond, Texas; the eighth child of 13 born to John F. and Mary Horacek Mutina. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers; Johnny Mutina (World War II), Walter and Otto Mutina, Sr., and three infant brothers, sisters; Marie Klasel & Hedy Sechelski, son-in-law; Johnnie Mac Steves, & daughter-in-law; Donnell Mutina. He is survived by his wife of 56 yrs., Minnie Ella Shell Mutina, of Angleton, TX, sons; Tony Mutina & wife Dianne of Danbury, TX, & Joseph (Hooty) Mutina of Demi-John, TX, daughters; Monica De Anne Steves of Angleton, TX & Melody K. Aucoin of Danbury, TX, grandsons; Shawn & Jeremy Mutina, granddaughters; Jennifer Steves Chesnutt & husband Kirk, & Amanda Aucoin, precious great-granddaughters Ella & Piper Chesnutt. Anton is survived by brother; Louis E. Mutina, Sr. & wife Olga of Sugarland, TX , sisters; Betty Bednarski of Sugarland, TX, Helen Schovajsa of Iowa Colony, TX, Georgia Pekar of Angleton TX, Bernice Herzog & husband Ray of Rosenberg, TX, & sister-in-law Betty J. Mutina of Houston, TX. Anton went to work for South Texas Water CO. in Rosharon at the age of 18 years as an oiler of a dragline. He received his draft notice & reported to leave for the armed forces on September 5, 1950. He was made a Pvt. E-2 May 18, 1951. He was trained at Camp Cook, CA, the 40th Infantry Division. He was sent to Korea, and returned on December 8, 1952 with the rank of Sergeant. He was released from duty and was in the reserve for 5 years, getting his honorable discharge early in September, 1956. He worked for South Texas Water Co. & Enterprises for 31 years, the Danbury Cabinet Shop, and different rice farmers until 1998, when he had to retire for health reasons. Anton loved his family very much. He loved to play his accordion for his children when they were babies, introducing them to music and singing and dancing at a young age that they have continued through their adult lives. He loved to garden, fish & hunt. He loved to fish so much that he and his wife were on the bank of the Brazos River at Rosharon, TX a week before their son, Tony was born. Tony had already been introduced to fishing! Our family circle has been broken another link, but we'll all be together again to form the circle of life. We love you so much! A memorial service is set for Saturday, May 12, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the Palms Funeral Home Chapel. Cynthia Jamison will officiate.
