Longtime Angleton resident Fred Oberhelman slipped away peacefully on June 22 at the age of 88. He was born in West Columbia, Texas, on May 25, 1933, to Arnold and Rosie Oberhelman, a much loved only child. He graduated from Angleton High School in 1951 and went on to become a proud member of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve. He received a BBA in Marketing and Sales from the University of Houston in 1955 and began his banking career in Angleton in 1961 at Allied First National Bank. Fred was the kindest and sweetest of men, a unique and gentle soul. Time was his currency. Relationships were his treasures. He lived his life in a slow and peaceful way. He was genuinely interested in people and loved nothing more than a good long visit. In his later years he enjoyed reminiscing about his life in Angleton and often commented on how fortunate he was to have known so many truly wonderful people, many of whom may be reading this today. Please know that when you took the time to visit with him, it fed his soul and created a cherished memory. His life was a series of small and unobtrusive acts of kindness, often undiscovered for a while, that would touch your heart. Those selfless acts are his legacy, inspiring us to pay it forward in honor of him. Fred is survived by his daughter Jenny Duplantis and her husband Jay, daughter Tori Sharp and her husband Roger, and beloved granddaughter Katie Rose Grella. To our Daddy and Popo, we "Love you lots more." In lieu of a service the family would greatly appreciate your sharing memories of our father and grandfather on the Palms website. Service Details. Family and friends are coming together online to create a special keepsake. Every memory left on the online obituary will be automatically included in this book. View Tribute Book
