Barbara Gibson Ferrer went to be with our Lord on Tuesday, June 30, 2021 at the age of 83 in Corpus Christi, Texas. Our Barbara will be dearly missed by all who loved and admired her throughout her life. Barbara certainly earned her Angel Wings by her lifetime devotion to her entire family, long-term friends and the many students she taught and counseled throughout her 36 years in Education. She showed the same devotion through her volunteerism in her church and her various organizations within the Houston Metro community. Barbara was an avid honorary volunteer usher at the Alley Theatre for over 15 years. Even after her retirement from HISD, Barbara volunteered to be a mentor to those students who were having challenges at home and school. Barbara Gibson was born in Kensington, KS on February 16, 1938. She was the last child of the four children born to Beulah Peer Gibson and Roger Gibson. After her high school graduation, she attended Kansas State University and received her bachelor's degree in Education. Later in life Barbara obtained her master's degree at the University of Houston. During Barbara's career as a teacher, she was a devoted and caring teacher to her many students teaching in Baltimore, Amarillo, Germany and Houston. Barbara was blessed to be loved by two wonderful men. Ed Ferrer, her late husband of 9 years (though they were together for 21 years). Barbara leaves behind a loving stepdaughter, Andrea Ferrer Solek. Years after Ed's death, Barbara met the "love of her life", the late Bob Pottorff of League City, TX. For 20 years they enjoyed square dancing, gardening and playing all types of card games. They loved teaching all their loved ones how to play "Mexican Dominos". This tradition continues today throughout our families. Barbara had many hobbies. She learned to Tap Dance in her early 70's. Her Tap Dance Group often performed throughout the Houston area. Her dear friend, Billie Strickland introduced her to bird watching. Together, they enjoyed traveling to different areas in Texas to spot various types of birds. Barbara's two favorite groups which she dearly loved were her "Walking Buddies" and her beloved "Silver Circle" friends. Barbara loved to travel. She was able to travel to most of the 50 states of our beautiful country and many countries abroad. Her most memorable trips she made was going back home to Kensington several times with her three siblings, Beverly, Jack and Bob. They all enjoyed seeing and catching up with their schoolmates from kindergarten to high school. Bonnie Youngquist was Barbara's oldest and dearest friend since their birth. Bonnie was so faithful in sending letters and cards to our Barbara throughout the many years of their friendship, especially the past few years of Barbara's life in Corpus Christi. Most of all, Barbara cherished her family! She loved spending time with her many nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews. Barbara's door and heart were always open to her loved ones and dear friends! We were her FAMILY and we will miss her dearly! May our Aunt Barbara forever Rest in Peace! Service Details.
