Bernard John Blaha, 88, went to be with the Lord and loved ones gone before him on February 13, 2021. He was born August 26, 1932 to John and Annastazie (Supak) Blaha in Plum, TX. He grew up cotton farming with his family and attended grade school at St. Jerome Parochial School, in Plum. Ben married the love of his life, Marcelline Pavlicek, in 1955 at Saint Mary's Catholic Church in Praha, and settled in Angleton soon after. He was a man deeply rooted in faith with an unshakeable love for Jesus. He offered unconditional love to his family and was a protector, a provider, and a leader. Ben enjoyed family gatherings with music, dancing, singing, and laughter. These events gave him opportunities to share his Czech heritage by teaching his children and grandchildren Czech phrases. He was known for entertaining friends and family by playing a variety of polkas and waltzes on his accordion and harmonica, and his doors were always open. Ben had a deep commitment to people. As owner of Blaha Air and Heat service for over 40 years, he could be counted on to make a service call regardless of the day or time in order to bring comfort into homes around the community. He was also active in his church, Saint Basil's (later Most Holy Trinity) for over 65 years and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Ben had a love for the outdoors where he spent time fishing, hunting, gardening, and appreciating the beauty of nature. On a normal night, he could be found in his recliner with a bowl full of Blue Bell watching a variety of sports on television and doing word search puzzles. He is survived by his loving wife Marcelline and seven children, daughter Karen Rhodes and husband Nick of Lorena, son Alan Blaha and wife Amy of Kerrville, daughter Gwen Fuchs and husband Michael of Angleton, son Glenn Blaha of Angleton, daughter Denise Gayle and husband Boo of Cisco, son Wayne Blaha of Angleton, and daughter Renee Talbot and husband Layne of Beaumont, 24 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren with 2 on the way. He is also survived by one brother, John Blaha and wife Betty of Smithville, sister-in-law Betty Blaha of Angleton, along with many cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family. Ben is preceded in death by his parents John and Annastazie; great-grandson Pacey Clayton; sisters Ethlyn, Eleanora; brother Paul, brothers-in-law Walter Michalk, Henry Reiss and many family members and friends who he considered family. Ben's grandsons will serve as pallbearers on February 24 at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, and he will be laid to rest at Praha Catholic Cemetery. The family has elected private services for the health and safety of all. In lieu of usual remembrances, contributions can be made in honor of Ben to Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 1713 North Tinsley Street, Angleton TX 77515.
