Betty Joyce Blaha

April 24, 1938 — December 12, 2021

Betty Joyce Blaha, 83 of Angleton, Texas went to be with the Lord on Sunday December 12, 2021 in Clute, Texas. She was born on April 24, 1938 in Rutersville, Texas. She was the fourth of five children born to John A. Kopecky and Julia C. Kopecky (Kubena). She grew up farming with her family and attended school in La Grange. She was fluent in the Czech language growing up in Fayette County in the 40's and 50's and always loved to speak the language later in life with her family and friends. She met the love of her life in her teens and married Paul Emil Blaha on November 22, 1958 at Saint Peter and Paul Catholic Church, in Plum. They celebrated 54 wonderful years of marriage until Paul's death in 2012. Betty and Paul settled in Angleton after they were married. She was active with her church (St. Basils, later Most Holy Trinity). She was a devoted and loving wife, a caring mother, grandmother and great-grand mother, and a sweet friend to so many. Betty was an amazing cook who loved to care for everyone around her. No one ever walked away from her home hungry. She worked for many years with the Angleton ISD Food Service, feeding children and making great friendships with fellow staff and students. She enjoyed reading, traveling, gardening, yardwork, Czech & country music and visiting with family and friends. She took up oil painting in her middle years and loved creating beautiful scenes on canvas. She is survived by five children, son Brian Blaha (wife Lisa ) of Ashwood, son Bruce Blaha (wife Tina) of Lake Jackson, daughter Beverly Blaha Lanfear (husband Larry) of Palacios, son Barry Blaha of Angleton, and son Brent Blaha (wife Ann) of Austin. She had nine grandchildren: Brett, Amy, Covey, Ashley, Paul, Brady, Sarah, Hannah and Meredith, three step-grandchildren: Ashley, Danielle and Cody, and numerous great-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren. She is survived by two siblings, sister Angeline Srubar of Plum and brother Frank Kopecky of La Grange, along with numerous nieces, nephews and many dear members of the extended Kopecky/Blaha families. Betty is preceded in death by her loving husband Paul Blaha, her parents John and Julia Kopecky, her brother Johnny Kopecky, her sister Dorothy Evanicky and countless ones she loved who departed before her. The Blaha family would like to extend our sincerest gratitude to Betty's dedicated caregivers in her final years, the staff at Creekside Nursing Home and to her in-home caregivers, especially her friend Jeanie McDonald. The void Betty leaves behind will be hard to fill. Though we are sorrowful for our loss, we can celebrate the life of a beautiful lady, confident in her place in God's kingdom in Heaven.
