Betty Tulllis

October 11, 1917 — August 14, 2016

On August 14, 2016, Betty Duke Tullis went to be with our Lord after a brief illness. Betty was born at home in Dumas City, near El dorado, Arkansas. She moved to Angleton, Texas in 1948 and the last 4 years she spent in Lake Jackson, Texas at Elmcroft Assisted Living. She lived to be 98 years and 10 months young. She was predeceased by her parents Pearl Murphy Duke and Charlie Homer Duke and her 2 brothers Henry Duke and Thomas Duke and 2 sisters, Madge Duke Watkins Mc Elwee and Dorrine Duke Willett Kundert. She was predeceased by her husband, Leon Marcus Tullis in 1985 Left to cherish her memory are her son, Charles Marcus Tullis and wife Grace Tullis of Lake Jackson, son Robert Duke Tullis of Lake Jackson, and daughter, Karen Sue Wilson and husband Bill Wilson of Lake Jackson. Three grandchildren, Courtney Cryer of Brooklyn, NY, Brittany Miller and husband Casey Miller of Spring, Texas and Drew Krystina Cryer of Houston and 1 Great Granddaughter, Miss Lily Pearl Miller, born May 2016. Betty was a proud grandmother and Great grandmother. Fourteen much loved nieces and nephews, also survive her; along with brother in law, Thomas Tullis and wife Joanne Tullis, and sister in law Jane Duke and sister in law Dorothy Hardacker. Betty was the 2nd of 5 children. She started school at "Rose Hill" a one-room school house at Lisbon and graduated from Rose Hill High School as Valedictorian in March 1936. She moved to "town" El dorado and worked the makeup counter at Woolworths. This began her love for makeup. She married Leon Tullis on August 5, 1939. During World War II she worked to support the war effort. They moved to several cities before settling in Angleton, Texas in 1949. Betty was a hardworking and independent woman from a young age. She was a homemaker for many years. In the 1970's She got her license to sell real estate and there was no turning back. She found her passion. She lived and breathed Real Estate. In her early 60's she went to Brazosport College and later became a Real Estate Broker. Her first job in real estate was with Billy Henderson in Lake Jackson. After that she moved on to Bob Peltier Real Estate in Angleton until her retirement at age 88 She was employee of the month and year many times. Betty attended First Baptist Church since 1949 and was Secretary of the Friendship Class for many years. She was a Christian who loved the Lord. Special thanks go out to the staff at Elmcroft Assisted Living ( especially Kristi Bullock) for the care they provided these past 4 years and to Rosie Tidwell for her loving assistance. Visitation will be held on Wednesday August 17, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Palms Funeral Home, 2300 East Mulberry Street, Angleton, Texas. Funeral services will be held on Thursday,_August 18 at 10:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church on 237 East Locust Street, Angleton, Texas. Pastor Rodney Bowman will be officiating the service. A private family burial will follow at Angleton Cemetery under the direction of Palms Funeral Directors. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Houston Hospice.at 1905 Holcombe Blvd., Houston, Texas. Betty was loved deeply and will be greatly missed.
