Billy Joe Thane

Billy Joe Thane, 78, of Angleton, Texas, passed away on July 23, 2018 at his home surrounded by his family. Services will be held on Thursday, July 26, 2018, at 10:00 am at Christian Tabernacle, 650 W Henderson Rd, Angleton, Texas. Visitation will be Wednesday, July 25, 2018 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Palms Funeral Home in Angleton, Texas. Billy was born June 19, 1940 to Paul and Sophie Hemann Thane in Navasota, Texas. He graduated from Navasota High School in 1958 and joined the United States Army in 1961. He served the majority of his time overseas in Germany and was commended as a Sharpshooter. After being honorably discharged in 1963, Billy made the decision to move to Brazoria County. Here he began his career at Dow Chemical and met and married Kathy Thane in 1970. He was employed as an operator at Chlorine III for 32 years, before retiring in 1996. After retiring, he worked part-time at Texas Gulf Bank, however his favorite "part-time job" was taking care of his three grandsons. Billy was known for his friendly personality; he never met a stranger. He loved to trot line fish at the Dow Reservoir, trying to catch those big catfish. Another one of his favorite past times was driving around town, just to relax. As an avid coin collector, he spent many hours sitting at his desk sorting coins, looking for that special and rare coin. But most of all, Billy loved his family. There wasn't anything he wouldn't do for them and especially his three grandsons. He was a great PawPaw. Billy is survived by his daughter, Sandy Thane McEntire and husband Steven; son, Paul Thane and wife Amber Collins Thane, all of Angleton; grandsons, Devin McEntire and Brandon Thane; great-grandson, Mason McEntire; brother, Alfred Thane of Angleton; Sisters, Betty Dickschat of Navasota; Bobbie Thane Burke and husband Cyril of Cypress, Tx; Sandra Thane Bosse and husband Clint of Washington on the Brazos; and numerous nephews and nieces. Billy is preceded in death by his wife of 36 years, Kathy Turner Thane; first born grandson, Dustin McEntire; parents, Paul and Sophie Thane; Brothers, Elroy Thane and Donald Thane; sisters, Velma Thane, Eleanora Hagar, Pauline Massey and Bernice Hammond. Pallbearers will be: Ken Eberspacher, Greg Goodman, Kevin Shoemake, Darrin Thane, Daryl Thane, Travis Turner, and Cody Vasut. Honorary Pall Bearers: Dustin McEntire, Devin McEntire, Brandon Thane and Mason McEntire.
