Billy Ray Richardson

February 6, 1934 — April 16, 2021

Billy Ray Richardson went to be with the Lord on April 16, 2021. Billy was born to Eudene and Eldon Richardson on Feb. 6, 1934, in Donie, Texas. He moved to Freeport, Texas, in 1941 and was a proud Exporter who graduated in 1951 with the last class of Freeport High School. Billy excelled in journalism and was asked to join The Daily Review newspaper during his senior year in high school as a sports reporter, photographer and darkroom developer. His success led to a sports reporter role with the Daily Facts-Review and then as news editor for another weekly paper, the Angleton Times. Along with his business partner, Billy helped grow the paper to a five-day daily and in 1966 started Times ers & Stationers in Angleton, Texas, which is still in business today. A sportswriter at heart, Billy continued to cover local teams for the Houston Post, Houston Chronicle and The Brazosport Facts well beyond his newspaper career. He served in several civic organizations, was recognized by the United Way of Brazoria County and was a recipient of the Pioneer Award from the Angleton Chamber of Commerce. Billy also honorably served his country as a corporal in the Signal Corps during the Korean War. A loving, kind and generous man, Billy was known for putting everyone else first. He deeply loved spending time with his family, appreciated traveling this great country and felt immense pride in being part of the Angleton business community. Through the years, many laughs, political discussions and sports debates occurred over coffee at Times ers. Billy is preceded in death by his parents, Eudene and Eldon, and brother, James Richardson. He is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 65 years, Ottalie Gormey Richardson; his son Bill Richardson of Angleton, Texas; son David Richardson and wife Babette of West Columbia, Texas; daughter Kristi Bentivegna and husband James of Friendswood, Texas; grandchildren Brittney Richardson, Brandon Richardson and his wife Kelly, Davis Richardson, Morgan Bentivegna and Aidan Bentivegna; his great-grandchildren Sarah Richardson and Hailyn Richardson.
