Billy Wayne Woodard, 64, of Angleton, passed away on December 26, 2020. He is preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Dean Woodard; grandparents, Willie and Thelma Woodard and DA and Rachel Griffis; sisters, Becky Weaver Echols and Elizabeth Menard Hausner; cherished aunt, Sue Wallace; and niece, Dianne Hanik Gilmore. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 44 years, Elizabeth Morrow Woodard; children, Jerod Woodard and wife, Natalie and Brad Woodard and wife, Tracy; granddaughters, Marjorie, Melissa, Catherine, and Emma; sister, Vicki Ladewig; God children, Justin and Jordan Massingill; nieces and nephews, Jeff Weaver, Jason Ladewig, Josh Menard, Ashley Ladewig, and Jade Munger; treasured cousins, Dena Flynn and Kim Wallace; and a host of other family and dear friends. Wayne was born in Corpus Christi, Texas, on May 12, 1956. He has been a resident of Angleton for over 60 years. After graduating from Angleton High School in 1974, Wayne began his career in the Freeport chemical industry as a contractor and was hired by The Dow Chemical Company in 1977 to the Oyster Creek Division. Wayne's 41 plus years at Dow, with resposibilities ranging from Operations Technician to Technical Advisor, expanded through Maintenance and Operations. His vast knowledge of the plant's functionality and his inate troubleshooting skills gave him the opportunity to mentor and counsel countless Operators and Engineers who had also chosen a career in the Chemical Industry. He was always a phone call away. He retired from Dow Chemical in 2018 and began a second career with JVI, Zachry Group as a Planner/Scheduler within the Olin Turnaround Group as a means to slow his pace down gradually. Wayne was a Certified Firefighter with the Angleton Volunteer Fire Department for 13 years beginning in the early 1980's . During his tenure, he held several officer positions within the organization and became a part of the Red Devils BBQ team that participated in BBQ cookoffs throughout Brazoria County. In 2009, contemplating the possibility of a post retirement career in the cooking/catering industry, he built a successful business, Custom Catering by Wayne. This part time adventure soon consumed all his free time and he subsequently sold the business assets to Brians BBQ in 2015. Wayne was a magnet to people and his relationship with everyone was very deep. He was a wonderful husband, father, friend and an awesome grandfather to four granddaughters who loved their PoPo dearly. It would be a request from Wayne that in leiu of flowers to consider making a donation in his memory to one of the following : Angleton Holy Comforter Episcopal Capital Campaign, Go Fund Me Campaign for Payton Rab for Severe Aplastic Anemia or International OCD Foundation (IOCDF.org). Due to Covid 19 safety protocols, an open viewing is planned for Sunday, January 3, 2021, from 12:30 pm to 2:30 pm, at Palms Funeral Home. A memorial will follow the visitation at 3:00 pm, at the Holy Comforter Epsicopal Church out under the Oak Trees. Please bring your own lawn chair. To keep everyone safe masks are required.
