Bonnie Jean Johnson

March 6, 1949 — July 10, 2024

Bonnie Jean Aicklen Yates Johnson passed away Wednesday, July 10, 2024, in Austin, Texas after a brief illness at the age of 75. Bonnie was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, on March 6, 1949, to Lois Anderson and Roy Aicklen, Sr. The family moved to Baton Rouge when she and her brother, Roy Aicklen Jr, were very young. Bonnie’s adored stepfather, Robert Bates, entered her life early on.

Bonnie graduated from NLU (formerly Northeast State University in Monroe) with a degree in Education. She was a gifted teacher serving students in both Louisiana and Texas until she retired. In 1997 she married Herman Johnson whom she fell in love with while they were co-teaching a young adult Sunday school class at the Angleton Methodist Church. Throughout her teaching career, she was blessed to make many lifelong friends. Bonnie’s warm smile and personality could make anyone happy. Bonnie was blessed to know the Lord Jesus Christ as her Savior and she carried his Spirit in her heart. She enjoyed traveling with her fun-loving retired teacher friends, known as the “Basket Buddies” and “Medicare Mermaids.” They had great times traveling nationally and internationally and getting together as often as they could.

Bonnie was preceded in death by her husband Herman Johnson, mother Lois Aicklen Bates, Father Roy Aicklen, Sr., stepfather Robert Bates (Yvonne Hano Bates), and brother Roy Aicklen, Jr. (Laurie Oldenburg Aicklen), Jason Landers (husband of Cathie and Father of Amy, Julie and Mary) and granddaughter Ashtyn Roden.

She is survived by first husband, William “Bill” Yates, sons John Robert (Laura) Yates and William Anderson “Andy” (Jinhee) Yates, brothers Greg Aicklen and Michael Aicklen, sister-in-law Laurie Oldenburg Aicklen, nephew Matthew (Lauren) Aicklen, niece Allison (Brady) Richard and step-children Lanie Johnson Brannen, Suzanne Johnson, Laura Johnson Morris (Darrell) and Cathie Johnson-Landers who were known in Angleton as the “The Johnson Girls” and numerous grandchildren including Kitty Parker, Mac and Campbell Yates, Cameron and Zach Morris, Amy, Julie, and Mary Landers, Barry “Bo” Johnson, Autum and Justin Steinhilber, Dustin (Abby) Bell, Laura and Ryan Mason and numerous great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. They all adored their NANA.
