Cecil F Maness

May 30, 1925 — March 25, 2021

Cecil F. Maness, age 95, went to his heavenly home on March 25th, 2021. Cecil was born in the Brushy Community of Madison County, Texas to Edith and Cecil Maness. He went to school there and after graduation went into the Navy where he played the bugle on the USS Windham Bay CVE-92 aircraft carrier in the Pacific. After honorable discharge, he returned to Madisonville and married Mary LaNell Shipp. They moved to Angleton in 1951 and he began work at Dow Chemical where he worked as a machinist for 42 years. He was a deacon at First Baptist Church of Angleton where he enjoyed being a Sunday School Teacher, bus driver and general handyman. He was involved in the TV ministry for many years, as well as numerous youth groups and other groups at the church. After retirement, he worked for Texas Baptist Men-Building for the Glory of God for many years where he and LaNell traveled to many different locations to help build over 100 churches for communities in need. Deciding to cut back on traveling, he later worked with Habitat for Humanity for several years. Cecil was a kind Christian man whose passion in life was telling others about God's love and helping others in any way he could. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and helpmate. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife Mary LaNell Maness, sons David Maness (Anna) of Angleton, Texas; Steve Maness (Bernadette) of Kerrville, Texas; daughter Laurie Turner (Jimmy) of College Station, Texas; brother Alwin Maness (Liz) of Wimberley, Texas; sisters in law, Jackie Maness of Fort Collins, Colorado and Linda Maness of Palestine, Texas; grandchildren Sean Maness, Chase Maness, Cortney Turner and Lindsay Turner; great grandchildren Benson, Beckett and Brooks Turner.
