November 18, 1960 –January 10, 2025

Charlene Suzette Janzen-Cady, 64, of Angleton, Texas, passed away on January 10, 2025, after a long battle with kidney failure.

Charlene was born on November 18, 1960, to Rose Janzen and Charles Whittle in Kansas City, Kansas. After Charlene graduated from Hays High School in 1978, she traveled across the United States and several countries, including Ecuador, Australia, and Fiji. She worked as a nanny and was beloved by the families and children she assisted.

Charlene loved to learn and attended university for eight years, earning four-year degrees in Education and in Liberal Arts at the University of Missouri at Kansas City.

While attending university, Charlene met Dave Cady at Cady’s Crab House, on a blind date set up by a mutual friend. Charlene and Dave married in 1995, and had one child, Loretta Rose Cady.

After becoming certified as a teacher, she began working at Jane Long Elementary School in 1997 as a third grade language arts teacher. She worked at various schools in Brazosport ISD for 24 years, until her retirement in 2021. Charlene was passionate about education and making a difference in the lives of her students. In 2022, Charlene was diagnosed with kidney failure and began dialysis treatments. Her health declined sharply in December 2024, and in early January she was admitted to hospice care. Charlene passed away peacefully at home, with her husband and daughter at her side.

Throughout her life, Charlene was passionate about serving her community. She volunteered with CASA, the SPCA, Habitat for Humanity, Hospice Care, sea turtle rescues, and many other charitable organizations. She was an active member of the Unity Church.

In her free time, Charlene loved board games, journaling, going to the beach, crafting, and spending time with her friends and family.

Charlene was preceded in death by her mother, Rose Janzen; her father, Charles Whittle; and her brother, Chris Goodman.

She is survived by her husband, Dave Cady; and her daughter, Loretta Cady.

At Charlene’s request, no public services will be held, instead preferring a private ceremony with close friends and family.
