Charles Douglas 'Chuck' Vines

Charles "Chuck" Douglas Vines, 58, of Pocatello, Idaho, passed away on Friday, October 31, 2014 at Portneuf Medical Center in Pocatello, Idaho with two of his children at his bedside after suffering a heart attack. He was born on October 6, 1956 in Denver, Colorado to Virgil "Doug" and Lou Vines. Chuck lived in Golden, Colorado as a very young child before moving to Baker, Louisiana with his parents and seven siblings. In 1961, they moved to Angleton, Texas where he spent the majority of his adolescence and young adult life. As a young boy he played on the Cardinals Little League Baseball team and was an Eagle Scout in Troop 13. While in high school, he played football, basketball, baseball and ran track. He graduated from Angleton High School in 1975. After graduating, he married his high school sweetheart, Pamela Carol Peterson. They were married for 14 years and had four beautiful children together: Jason, Melanie, Christopher, and Kimberly. He enjoyed coaching both of his son's little league baseball teams and was an umpire for youth baseball for many years and a referee for youth basketball. During high school, Chuck worked at Sears and then later at Climate Heating and Air Conditioning in Angleton as an installer and repairman. From there he went to work for Dow Chemical as an Operator. After completing his associate's degree in Criminal Justice at Brazosport College, he went on to work for Richwood, Oyster Creek, and Holiday Lakes police departments. He then returned to Dow Chemical and worked as a security officer. In the early 1990's, he moved to the Pacific Northwest where he resided in Utah, Wyoming, and Idaho and worked as a ranch hand for many years before returning to Angleton in 2000. While in Angleton, he worked as a handy-man and also took care of his mother for several years before she passed away in 2010. His love for the outdoors, camping and the beautiful mountains took him back to Wyoming in 2011 where he lived and worked at Good Samaritan Mission in Jackson Hole. While living there, he met girlfriend, Rose Rotunno, whom he also leaves to cherish his memory. He is survived by his children: Jason Vines of Austin, TX; Melanie Vines (Michael S. Hall, Sr.), Chris Vines (Christinna) of Angleton, TX; and Kim Scott (Sonny) of Danbury, TX. Grandchildren: Eboni Taylor, Johanna Grice, and Michael Hall, Jr. of Clute, TX; Zekoma Hall, Destiny Marshall, Jacob Hall, Nicholas Vines, and Paige Vines of Angleton; and Makayla Scott, Lauren Dugger, Creed Scott, Carter Scott of Danbury. Siblings: Linda Beall, Wanda Martin, Pat Miller, Brenda Kossum, Donnie Vines, Jimmy Vines, and Lee Vines. Uncles: Ellis Ray, Faye and Wayne Coleman. Seven great-grandchildren and many nephews, nieces, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents: Eurie and Bertha Coleman, Charles R. Vines and Alice Hayes; uncles: Foye Lowe, Junior, John, Lewis, Herman, Hersey, and Willie Coleman; aunts: Audrey Estrada and Stella Ross; grandson: Jacob Dugger; nephew: Jared Kossum and special family friend, Dean Woodard Harris. Visitation will be held Thursday, November 6, 2014 at Palms Funeral Home in Angleton, TX from 5-8pm. Funeral Services will be Friday, November 7, 2014 at Second Baptist Church in Angleton at 10am with Pastor Chris Moore officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Angleton Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers: Jason Vines, Chris Vines, Michael Hall, Sr., Ronnie Clegg, Weldon Browning and Wayne Woodard. Honorary pallbearers: Donnie, Jimmy and Lee Vines, Sonny Scott and Chuck's grandsons. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Palms Funeral Home in Angleton, Tx. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Palms Funeral Home to assist Chuck's children with funeral and burial cost.
