Dan Allen Lanier

September 12, 1929 — June 17, 2013

Dan Allen Lanier Dan Allen Lanier, 83, of Richwood, Texas slipped peacefully from the Earth and went home to be with the Lord on Monday, June 17, 2013. The oldest son of four children born to Ira and Mildred Lanier, Dan was born September 12, 1929 in Freeport, Texas. The family resided in Madisonville, Edna and Victoria before coming home to Freeport where Dan excelled in all sports, especially football. He played for Coach Herbert Hopper from 1945-1947 where he was named an All-State Lineman and was invited to play in the state North-South All-Star Game. Dan served in the US Army at Fort Hood and Fort Bliss and he pitched men's fast-pitch softball for the Army team. While in the military, he married his high school sweetheart, Charlotte Reed. They returned to Freeport and had two daughters, Danice and Patti. When twin daughters doubled the pot, they built their homestead in Richwood where Dan resided until his passing. Dan worked as a pipefitter for the Dow Chemical Company for 35 years and was a proud member of the Pipefitters Local Union # 390. He held down the Valve Shop for Dow in the 60s and 70s with such Dow Men as Lee Ford, Puny Walters, Al Stavinoha, O.D. Kenemore, Frank Smith, Raymond Pena and TreeTop Evans until his retirement in 1990. Dan was a man of gentle means whose kindness was unparalleled. He focused his life on raising a fine family with morals and traditional values and he was concerned foremost with the welfare of his children and grandchildren. Never did one of the girls pull into the driveway that he didn't ask, "Have you checked your oil lately?" He was one of a rare breed who truly thought of others first. He loved watching the Houston Texans, Rockets and Astros, old-fashioned family reunions, and an occasional bowl of Blue Bell. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 55 years, Charlotte; his parents, Ira and Mildred Lanier; his sister, Ima Blair and his sister-in-law, Irma Lanier. Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Danice Lanier of Houston; Patti Bludau and husband Nelson of Angleton; Jenelle Willis and husband Robert of Cypress; and Jeanene Anderson and husband John of Simpsonville, South Carolina; grandchildren, Tyler Bludau, Kristin Willis, Tucker Bludau, and Ryan Willis; brothers, Carroll Lanier of Brenham and Billy Lanier and wife Terry of Lake Jackson; brother-in-law Damon Reed and wife Lolita of Richwood, and sister-in-law Shirley Nelson of Tyler. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 20, 2013 at Palms Funeral Home with the Rev. Chris Moore officiating. Monty Jones will provide special music. Burial will follow at Angleton Cemetery. The family will receive visitors on Wednesday, June 19, 2013 from 6-8 p.m. at Palms.
