Dannis Fontenot

Dannis Fontenot, 88 who would've been 89, of Angleton peacefully went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, January 12, 2019 surrounded by his loving family. Dannis was born in Port Barre, LA near Eunice, LA on January 26, 1930 to Lindy and Marie Fontenot. Dannis served his country in the U.S. Army from 1951-1953, during the Korean War and attained the rank of Staff Sergeant and received an honorable discharge. He was also a proud member of the Brazoria County Combined Honor Guard which he served in over 400 funerals. Dannis and his beloved wife, Billie, made their home in Angleton, TX in 1965 where they raised their 3 children. He was a heavy equipment mechanic by trade working for a local company in Freeport for 14 years before starting his own company which he retired from after 15 years. His family was always his number one priority. He was a man of many talents, a self-made man that convinced his grandchildren that he was a "genius". His award winning gumbos will be greatly missed by friends and family. Dannis was an avid outdoorsman that enjoyed hunting, fishing, cooking and gardening. He grew up in a rural French community in China, TX during the depression era where he and his brothers spent countless days hunting, fishing and grappling to provide their family of 10 food for the day. He will be greatly missed by his loving family and those that had the privilege of knowing him personally. Dannis was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers and 2 sisters. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Billie Fontenot, children, Dannis L. Fontenot, Crystal D. Lezak and husband Paul, Eric O. Fontenot and wife Rebecca, sisters Gloria Jacobs and husband Neal, Grace Scalisi and husband Sam, grandchildren Zane Lezak, Alexa Lezak, EmmaLynne Fontenot, Sydney Fontenot and Trace Fontenot. Rosary will be 11:00 am. Wednesday January 16, 2019 with Funeral services following at 11:30 in the Palms Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Angleton Cemetery.
