Donald Dean "Don" Burwell

Donald Dean "Don" Burwell, 85, passed away on Saturday, October 27, 2018 in Angleton, TX. He was born on October 24, 1933 in North Freedom, WI to William Lee & Francelia Amelia Lindley Burwell. A Public visitation is scheduled for Monday, October 29, 2018 form 5-7:00 pm in Palms Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Service will be held at Second Baptist Church of Angleton at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, October 30, 2018 with Pastor Chris Moore officiating and Pastor Wally Strother co-officiating. Burial will follow in Angleton Cemetery with Military Honors. Don was the third born child of seven children, he married the love of his life Norma Ruth Hill on December 24, 1951. They had two children; son Danny Richard Burwell of Angleton and daughter Peggy Sue Burwell Patton of Richwood. Don honorably served in the US Marine Corp during the Korean War, he returned home and went to work for DOW Chemical until he decided to open his own mechanic shop in Angleton, Burwell Auto Repair. He made many lifelong friends from his business and loved working on vehicles and meeting new people. Don closed his business in 1979 and accepted a position as manager over equipment and vehicle maintenance with the Chocolate Bayou company in Alvin. He retired from there in 1985. He was able to continue his love for working on vehicles by teaching Auto Mechanics for a short time at Brazosport College. Don also had a love for wood working. He could usually be found in his shop making something for the house, his children & grandchildren or friends. He made many toys that kids are still playing with. He loved country music and would sit in the living room picking away at Hank Williams, Jim Reeves, Johnny Cash and many more old-time country artists. Don loved his family with his whole heart and did anything to make sure they were happy and well taken care of and was always there for each one no matter what. He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Danny Richard Burwell, brothers: Charles & Gerald "Jerry" Burwell, sisters: Betty Burwell Miller, Susan Burwell Cannon & JoAnn Burwell Smith. Don is survived by his wife Norma, daughter Peggy Sue Burwell Patton and husband Glenn; daughter-in-law, Avis Burwell of Angleton, grandchildren: Bryan Burwell & wife Melissa of Angleton, Bradley Tyler & wife Penny of East Bernard, Ashley Burwell Harrell & husband Josh of Brazoria, great-grandchildren: Briley & Madison Burwell, Easton & Kayson Tyler, and Brantley Harrell, brother, Mickey Burwell and wife Shirley of Alvin, very special friends Wally & Jeanette Strother, as well as numerous other family and friends. Serving as Pallbearers: Mark Tyler, Donald Miller, Eric Brieden, Kyle Cranfill, William Wilson & Landon Burwell. Special thank you to IPH Hospice for their help and kindness during a difficult time.
