Donald "Donnie" Dwayne Rice went to be with the Good Lord on April 22, 2022, at the age of 62 surrounded by his family. His lifelong strength, resilience and determination carried him through a courageous three-year fight against cancer. Donnie was born on October 1, 1959, to Robert "Buster" Rice and Geneva "Tiny" Rice. Donnie was a 1978 graduate of AHS and loved reminiscing on his time playing sports, especially Wildcat Football. After graduation, Donnie went to work for Dow Chemical where he worked for 36 years before transferring to Olin Corporation and retiring after 4 more years of service. He knew the value of hard work and instilled this in his children, teaching them to always give their all and take pride in everything they do. He continued to pass this lesson on to his grandchildren, showing them how to fill the bird feeders, take care of the garden, and polish rocks into beautiful stones. He had a passion for cooking and fed anyone who came over, whether they were hungry or not. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, taking every opportunity to sneak them chocolate or popsicles no matter what mom or dad said. He loved watching the Astros, enjoyed a good game of 42, and if you had any dollar bills, he'd challenge you to a game of liar's poker. He loved animals and was the first one the kids went to if they wanted to bring another pet home. Donnie will always be remembered for his generosity and how much he cared about his family, his friends and his community. He would do anything he could to make sure people felt taken care of; whether it was a random act of kindness, sending flowers, or giving someone extra cash. In lieu of flowers or a donation and in honor of Donnie's generous heart, take time to help a stranger or show a friend you're thinking of them. Donnie is survived by his mother, Geneva "Tiny" Rice; sister, Rebecca "Becky" Venhaus and husband Leonard "Doc"; brother, Dennis Rice; daughter, Kathryn Cavanah and husband Taylor; son, Keith Rice and wife Jenny; son, Nick Rice and wife Ashley; and grandchildren, Jack Cavanah, Emerson "Emme" Cavanah and Charley Rice with another granddaughter arriving in August. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert "Buster" Rice. He is loved and will be missed by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and wonderful friends.
