Don J Mayeux passed away in the early morning of May 16, 2018 surrounded by family at the age of 77. Don was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. He was born in Dallas on November 26, 1940 and adopted by A. Ludger & Lizzie Longmire Mayeux and raised in Austin, Texas. Don graduated from Austin High School in 1959 and attended UT for a year, he still enjoyed supporting the Texas Longhorns through the years. Don joined the Marines and US Navy and served on the destroyer USS Wedderburn. Once he returned to Austin, Don worked 14 years for The City of Austin before beginning his off-shore oil & gas career spanning over many decades. While working full-time in sales and travelling the US and Europe, Don returned to UH/DT and earned his BS degree in 2000 at the age of 59. Don retired in 2015 after 30 years with Parker Hannifin. Through the years, Don was a long time member and exalted ruler (1972 & 1973) of the Elks Lodge in Austin and Kemah. As well, Don loved to serve as an usher to the members of Clear Lake United Methodist Church. Don was an avid boater and fisherman on the lakes and on the coast of Texas including Austin, Galveston and Rockport. Surviving Don are his loving wife of 46 years, Jan; son Ty Mayeux & wife Cindy of Smith Point, TX; daughter Sonya Runkel & husband Steven of Leander, TX; granddaughter Crystal Mayeux and children, Caedence & Baize of Nassau Bay, TX; many friends and cousins. The family would like to express our gratitude to all the wonderful nurses and doctors at Clear Lake Regional Medical Center for their devoted care of Don. Funeral Services will be Saturday, May 19th, 2018 at 10:00 am at Clear Lake United Methodist Church. Interment services to follow at Red Bluff Cemetery in Lolita, Texas. Honorary pallbearers are the Methodist Church ushers. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made in his honor to the American Heart Association or a veterans organization of your choice.
