Dorothy Anne Elizabeth Hurst Holmes The adventurous life of Dorothy Anne Elizabeth Hurst Holmes came to an end on January 20, 2013. Dorothy was 94 years old. She is the last of her line of Hursts to who settled in Angleton. Her grandfather, Jonas Hurst, brought his family to Angleton in 1894. Dorothy was raised on a farm east of town and graduated from Angleton High School in 1936. After attending business college, she worked for Humble Oil Company in Houston. During WWII she met James Clarence Holmes; and, they were married in 1943. They raised two children while living in South America, Africa, and Europe. Dorothy was an accomplished genealogist who traced at least one family line to the 1200s in Germany. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years in 2002, her sister, Bernice Margaret Hurst, in 2005, and her son, James Jeffrey Holmes, in 1998. She leaves behind her daughter, Dorothy Ann Holmes Polk, grandchildren, James Gardner Talcott and Elizabeth Anne Talcott York, and great grand children, Weston York and Savannah York. She was a sweet, gracious, generous southern lady who will be missed. Funeral services will be held on Friday, Feb 1st at 11 am at the First United Methodist Church of Angleton.
