Dorothy Jean Brown

September 23, 1999 — June 23, 2016

Dorothy Brown, 85, of Angleton, took her last breath on earth and her first breath in Heaven on Thursday June 23, 2016 surrounded by her adoring family. Dorothy was born on September 23, 1930 in Kenney, Texas to Alvin Loesch and Adele Dahse. She was one of five children. She grew up on a modest country farm, where she worked with her family and learned to appreciate and maximize any resource available. This continued throughout her life. Dorothy came to Brazoria County as a teenager and worked at Elkins Grocery in Velasco, which is where she met the love of her life, Louis Brown. They would have celebrated their 70th anniversary June 15. Dorothy had many jobs outside the home through the years, and worked hard to support her family. She recalled with particular fondness her time spent working in the County Clerk's office at the Brazoria County Courthouse, mostly due to the daily interactions she had with others. All of Dorothy's neighbors, friends, and family enjoyed her delicious cooking and appreciated the love and thoughtfulness that was evident in each recipe. She was especially talented in preparing dishes made with fresh vegetables from her late husband Louis's garden. Louis and Dorothy were faithful members of Second Baptist Church in Angleton, TX for over 60 years and Dorothy's love for the Lord was reflected through the kind way in which she treated everyone she encountered. She always had something nice to say about each person. Dorothy always made sure that no matter the occasion or excursion, every detail was perfectly thought out. Dorothy and Louis also enjoyed camping and their family is left with many fond memories of time spent on various camping trips. Of all of her accomplishments, Dorothy's most impactful job was raising her two children and later, watching her family blossom with two cherished grandsons, who fondly recall countless weekends spent with Mamaw and Papaw during their childhood. Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband Louis Brown. She is survived by her son Wayne Brown and wife Kathey of Angleton, and her daughter Rhonda Rice and husband Robert of Angleton. Dorothy treasured each opportunity to spend time with her grandsons Bryan Brown and wife Kelsie of Van Vleck, and Clayton Stewart and wife Kaysie of Angleton. Most recently, her great-grandchildren Karly Brown (11), Kenzie Brown (8), Kimber Stewart (4) and Tealle Stewart (3) brought her great joy, and she couldn't wait to teach them things learned through her life experiences. She is also survived by her sister and best friend, Jeanette Shobe, of Florida. All of Dorothy's children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren have been shaped by her kindness, goodness, and generosity, and feel blessed to have had such a beautiful person on earth for so long.
