Dorthy Lee Gore

December 9, 1926 — May 14, 2017

Dorthy Lee Oliver Gore, age 90, of Angleton passed away peacefully in the early hours of Mother's Day, May 14, 2017. Dorthy was born to W.L. "Buster" Oliver and Minnie Bailey Oliver on December 9, 1926 in Old Gulf, Texas. She was raised in Nursery, Texas and graduated from Patti Welder High School in Victoria. While growing up, she worked cows and rode horses with her dad. Dorthy and her sister Linda were close. The girls made lots of great memories with stories often shared by "Grandma Minnie"! They were affectionately known to each other as "Doodlah" and "Sister" for a lifetime. After high school, Dorthy worked for Western Union in the Rio Grande Valley before meeting and marrying William (Bill) Murray McCauley with who she had three children. They raised their children in Angleton and together they owned and operated Riceland Flying Service out of Rosharon. In 1994, she married Claude Gore while working for Francis Bennett in the District Clerk's Office. At the time of her death, she affectionately referred to home as "The Farm" where she spent many happy days enjoying "the property", livestock and her roses. She often shared great memories of her many long-lasting friendships and the love of her family. Dorthy's fond memories of coffee time and playing bridge was in later years trumped by the love of reading and spending many hours enjoying her Nook. She also enjoyed cooking one of her grandchildren's favorites, homemade enchiladas. These special times would not be complete without mentioning her visits from members of the First United Methodist Church in Angleton, lovingly known as her church home! Dorthy is preceded in death by her Mother and Father, infant brother Sonny, sister Linda Nell Walters and husband Kenneth, William (Bill) Murray McCauley, Sr., Herman Claude Gore, William (Bill) Murray McCauley, Jr., and Rex Bailey, Jr. She is survived by her children Mary Kathryn McCauley Thompson (Alan) of Boerne, daughter-in-law Susan Wolf McCauley of Houston and daughter Susan Lynn McCauley Kulhanek (Randy) of Angleton.
