Doug Peltier went peacefully to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, December 4, 2013 at MDAnderson hospital in Houston. God decided it was time to end Doug's 15 year battle with Hodgkins Lymphoma Cancer at the age of 50. Doug was surrounded by his spouse, parents and siblings in his final hours. Doug married his loving wife Vallori on July 4, 2006. She was the love of his life and is a loving sister and daughter to his siblings and parents. They resided in Danbury, Texas surrounded in life by his family. He is also survived by his parents, Patsy and Gerald Peltier; his brother, Daryl Peltier and wife Carol; Sisters, Doris Elaine Lewis and husband Edward; Dinah Zacek and husband Johnny; Mary Jeanne Hawkins and husband David (Hawk); Mother in-law, Margaret Blackmon; brother in-law Marvin Blackmon and wife Tracey. Doug enjoyed teasing and playing with his 16 nieces and nephews and his 12 great nieces and nephews. Doug had a very special bond with his family. His presence was the glue that bound our close knit family. Doug was also an active outdoors man. He loved hunting with his brother, father and nephews. He also loved fishing with his wife, family and friends. He was a very active member of the Titlum Tatlum bay house crew and was an essential part of the long running (17 years) Titlum Tatlum Tournament. Doug began his career in construction with his Uncle Jake Clawson at B & C Construction. He continued his construction career at Jaco Construction and Vernor Materials before moving over to the Sun States Company. Sun States moved Doug to North Carolina for several years. During those years Doug was given the opportunity to travel the United States as a training and safety manager. Doug continued to work for Sun States during his early years of cancer treatment. Doug moved back to Danbury, Texas and began work for Matula & Matula Construction Inc. in January of 2005 where he met his wife Vallori and made many very close friends that will always be considered family. Doug continued to work for Matula & Matula through his last days. He will be greatly missed by all that he touched throughout his life. He was a small man with a very large heart and presence. Pallbearers for the service will be nephews: Andy Lewis, Cody Lewis, Daniel Peltier, Michael Peltier, Nicholas Peltier, William Peltier, Sam Hawkins and Ryan Blackmon. The celebration of Doug's life will take place on Saturday, December 7, 2013 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, of which Doug was a lifetime member, in Danbury, Texas at 2:00 p.m. There will be a visitation at the church on Friday, December 6, 2013 beginning at 5:00 p.m. following with a wake service at 7:00 p.m. In lieu of traditional remembrances the family is asking for donations to be made to the "Sister Antoinette Peltier Nest Egg Fund" at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic School, 1600 Highway 2004, Richwood, Texas 77531.
