Dwight Gregg Dykes

January 31, 1957 — September 28, 2013

Dwight Gregg Dykes, 56, of Angleton passed away Saturday, September 28, 2013 at his home. Gregg was born January 31, 1957 in Dublin, Texas to Cecil and Delphine Dykes who now reside in New Braunfels, TX. He attended Marshall High School in San Antonio and was a graduate of the University of Houston. He is survived by his loving wife Cathy and sons Aaron of Austin, Texas, Austin and wife Nikki of Kyle, Texas and Cole Williams of Angleton, Texas. He is also survived by his parents and sisters Michelle Davis, husband Michael and son Justin of San Antonio, Texas and Melinda Farris, husband Greg and son Kyle of Bulverde, Texas and numerous other family members and friends. Gregg thoroughly enjoyed the outdoors and was passionate about hunting and fishing, loved to watch football and loved boating offshore. Gregg was a devoted family man with a wonderfully dry sense of humor and a positive outlook on life. He was especially devoted to his wife, Cathy of 18 years. He loved to share his sense of adventure by traveling whenever possible and enjoyed vacationing with Cathy. He also took pride in his boys and their achievements. He enjoyed introducing the boys to his love of the outdoors. With hunting season nearing, he was looking forward to heading to the ranch and hunting with his boys. Gregg was a 28 year employee of State Farm Insurance Company and achieved the designations of CPCU (Chartered Property Casualty Underwriters), CLU (Certified Life Underwriter), ChFC (Chartered Financial Consultant). He worked as an agent, then as a Senior Claims Representative and recently as Field Compliance Officer. He served three terms on the Angleton City Council and was just beginning his fourth term. Gregg was also a member of Session at the First Presbyterian Church of Angleton. He was very active in United Way and served on the Angleton Parks Board for many years. Probably one of Gregg's most defining qualities was his intelligence. He studied and researched projects he was involved in so he could make informed decisions. His time on Angleton City Council was marked by the care he felt for his community and his desire to do the right thing. He was a reliable and genuinely caring and compassionate individual who will be missed by all whose lives he touched publicly and privately. Pallbearers will be his sons Aaron, Austin and Cole and friends Tim Stamps, Paul Ottis, and Ray Marin. Honorary pallbearers will be Mayor Randy Rhyme and Gregg's fellow Angleton Council members.
