Elizabeth Ann Ray

December 23, 1922 — October 18, 2014

Elizabeth "Betty" Ray, age 91, died October 18 at Creekside Village Healthcare in Clute, TX following a brief illness. She was born December 23, 1922, in Cleveland, Ohio, daughter of the late William and Mabel Quirk. She was a graduate of Jefferson High School and attended Kent State University, having accepted a challenge from her son to begin college when she was in her 40s. She was preceded in death by her first husband of 49 years, Vincent Devere Terrill; her second husband, Clayton West; and recently in December 2013, her third husband of 16 years, E Wayne Ray. In addition to being a mom, wife, and homemaker, she almost always had a job doing bookkeeping or accounting and eventually became the clerk treasurer of North Kingsville Village, Ohio, being recognized with commendations from the state of Ohio. She later volunteered in Florida with FISH, a Christian service organization, with her husband Mr. Ray, him as a driver and her as the bookkeeper. Mrs. Ray supported her husband and children in all their activities and was an avid golfer and gardener. She had a lifelong love of reading and music which she passed on to her children. She was a self-taught, skillful harmonica player and organist, and could play the piano by ear. Even with the ever-present family dog and full-time jobs, she kept an immaculate house. Betty loved spending time with her grandchildren. She and their grandfather treated them to ice cream, candy, dinners out, and more importantly, her and their grandfather's undivided attention. Survivors include her daughter Linda (Algie) McEndree of Angleton; her son, Jerry (Noriko) Terrill of Mt. Vernon, NY; grandchildren Colleen (Lance) Tribble of Angleton; Suzanne McEndree of Hot Springs, SD; great-grandchildren Cori and Cade Tribble of Angleton; sister Dorothy Hamilton of Jefferson, Ohio, and several nieces and nephews.
