Elizabeth 'Beth' Hunter

Elizabeth Smith Hunter Elizabeth (Beth) Hunter, 90, passed away October 19, 2015 at her home in Angleton. She was born at home on the family's dairy farm in Alvin, Texas on January 15, 1925 to Tom Wesley & Mary Pauline Smith. She was the 6th child in a family of 9 children. She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband Roy Charles Hughes and her siblings Marion Duncan, Thomas Smith, Jr., Dorothea Hines, Eleanor Bird and Bill Smith. Beth followed her family to Angleton during World War II where she worked for the Ration Board. She moved to Houston where she met Roy Hughes while they were both working for Brown and Root Construction Company. They were married June 16, 1951 and spent 17 adventure filled years together that included living in Alaska and running a ranch in LaGrange. They had one daughter, Charlene Hughes Williams. After Roy died, Beth decided to attend college to get her degree in teaching. She moved to Angleton in 1969 to be close to her mother and sisters. She finished her degree and graduated from the University of Houston with a B.S. in Education. She taught at Northside Elementary for 17 years. Beth loved children and felt blessed to get to work with them. On February 27, 1976, she married Sanford Lee Hunter (Lou) at the Episcopal Church of the Holy Comforter. She was thankful for the almost forty years that they shared together. She gained three children and their families in her marriage to Lou. She loved God and her family and was so proud of all her children, grandchildren & great-grandchildren. Beth was a member of the Embroidery Club, Bridge Club, Study Club, Brazoria County Retired Teachers, Angleton/Danbury Hospital Auxiliary and Daughters of the King. She was a faithful member of the Episcopal Church of the Holy Comforter. She helped bring the Godly Play program to the church. She loved to sew and made many stuffed lambs for the children who were baptized at the church. Beth is survived by her husband, Lou Hunter; her sisters, Laurene Patterson, Jimmie Lou Green and Margaret Roussel (Wilson); her daughter Charlene Williams (Steve); step-children, Karen (Michael) Courreges, Cary Hunter (Karen), and Kaye (Andy) Cates; grandchildren, Rachel Murphree (Tom), Emily Krueger (Justin), Claire Courreges, Katie Hunter, Craig Hunter and Taylor Cates; great-grandchildren, Lauren Murphree, Thomas Murphree, Katherine Krueger and Coupland Krueger. Visitation will be from 5-7 Thursday October 22, 2015 at Palms Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday October 23, 2015 at The Episcopal Church of the Holy Comforter. Burial will follow in the Angleton Cemetery. We are very thankful for the wonderful caregivers that cared for Beth towards the end of her life. Thank you, Adelia Brown, Anna Casados and especially Lupe Quintanilla who understood what Beth needed better than anyone. We never could have made it through this difficult time without them.
