Ella 'Granny' Zgarba

Ella Zgarba, 100, of Danbury, beloved mother and grandmother, passed from this life on March 18, 2013 at her home. She was blessed with a long and wonderful life and her absence will be felt by all who loved her. Funeral services for Ella will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, March 21, 2013 at Palms Funeral Home with Ronnie Bush officiating. Burial will follow in the Danbury Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 20 at Palms. Ella was born July 17, 1912 in Snook, Texas to John and Carrie Sebesta. She was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, August Joseph Zgarba, brothers, Johnnie Sebesta, Eddie Sebesta, sisters, Elsie Sebesta, Milady Spillar, Olga Zgarba and son-in-law R.J. "Jinks" Tribble. Ella moved to the Danbury area in 1924 and married August Zgarba in 1928. Together they farmed cotton, corn and raised cattle in the Danbury area for many years. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother and came from an era where hard work was considered normal day-to- day living. She had a passion for gardening and continued to do so until her last days. Many have memories of her with a garden hoe in her hand and a smile on her face. She was a wonderful cook and served many meals to family, friends, and strangers with produce from her garden. She was a wonderful role model of gentleness and strength to all her family and she will be greatly missed. She is survived by her son, James D. Zgarba and wife Margie of Danbury, daughter, Helen Tribble of Danbury, brother, Joe Sebesta of Danbury, sisters, Fannie Cothran of Angleton, Libby Amason of Brazoria, Lena Vickers of Lake Jackson, grand children, Joe Tribble and Susie of Danbury, Gladys Mitchell and Donnie of Danbury, Don Zgarba and Pam of Angleton, Travis Zgarba of Angleton, Nancy Reynolds and Dan of Brenham, Sandra Bush and Randy of Danbury, Eva Meredith and Danny of Danbury, Cheryl Scott and Steve of Danbury, Rex Zgarba of Austin, great grandchildren, Lance Tribble, Kristy Cude, Kerri Dean, Dee Mitchell, Danny Mitchell, Dory Mitchell, Nathan Zgarba, Jeremy Zgarba, Clay Reynolds, Danielle Reynolds, Steven Bush, Ronnie Bush, Lynn Meredith, Craig Meredith, Shane Scott, Chase Scott, Holly Scott and numerous great-great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be her great grandsons. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Angleton, or Community Baptist Church, Danbury.
