Eugene Edward (Hoot) Filipp, 88, of Danbury passed away on Friday, July 24, 2020. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 64 years, Barbara Ann Morrow Filipp; son, Gene Filipp; daughters, Lea Ann Taylor (Bobby), Julie Allen (Mitch), Gena Lenz (Traylor), and Jona Filipp; grandchildren, Staci DiAngelo (Dave), Emilie and Katie Taylor, Hannah and Madeline Allen, and Laynie and Gracie Lenz; great granddaughter, Olivia DiAngelo; brother, Benjamin Filipp; sisters, Benita Dixon, Ellin Filipp, and Mary Stark; and a host of other family and dear friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank John and Emilie Pustejovsky Filipp; brothers, Alvin and Jimmy Filipp; and sister, Georgian Reeder. Eugene was born on April 28, 1932 in Shiner, Texas. He fell in love and married his high school sweetheart, Barbara, on October 23, 1955, and started building their beautiful family. A proud veteran, he served two years in the United States Army during the Korean War. Eugene was a hard worker and wonderful provider for his family, working 48 years with DOW Chemical Company. He enjoyed fishing and gardening and was especially skilled at both. Strong in his faith, Eugene spent several years as a deacon at Angleton Church of Christ. Everyone he knew would describe him as a gentle giant. Eugene loved his family more than anything. His grandchildren and great grandchildren meant the world to him and he would spend time with them every chance he got. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Services for Eugene will take place at Angleton Church of Christ on Thursday, July 30, 2020. The visitation will begin at 10:00 am and continue until the service at 11:00 am.
