Evelyn Virginia Cole

February 20, 1936 — January 25, 2019

Evelyn Virginia Cole, 82, of Lake Jackson, Texas passed away on January 25, 2019. She was born February 20, 1936 in Centralia, Oklahoma to LD and Lona Pearl Costley. Her childhood involved helping out on the ranch and playing with the baby goats and sheep. In her teen years Evelyn's family moved to Happy, Texas and she graduated from Happy High School in 1954. It was at Happy High School that she met the love of her life, Charles Wesley Cole. She and Charles were married on October 8, 1954 in Happy, Texas. They set up homestead in the small community of Arney, Texas. They later moved to Tulia, Texas where she stayed at home to take care of the family and Charles worked for the telephone company. In 1969 Charles decided he did not want to spend his life climbing telephone poles and he and Evelyn moved to Angleton, Texas so Charles could start his career with Dow Chemical. Evelyn continued to stay home and became an experienced seamstress. Evelyn could mend and alter anything and even made her daughter's wedding dress. Evelyn and Charles had a passion for mission work and began building churches across the United States with Volunteer Christian Builders. Each summer they packed their camper and headed out to build churches wherever God led them. Once Charles retired, they spent much of their time traveling from site to site building churches. For many years Charles and Evelyn led the Volunteer Christian Builder's organization with Charles being the president and Evelyn being the secretary/treasurer. In the years preceding her death, she enjoyed quality family time. She spent as much time with her great grandchildren as possible and loved them fiercely. She genuinely enjoyed the company of anyone who visited her. She attended all family holidays, birthdays and gatherings with joy. She never missed an opportunity to spend time with those she loved and cherished friends and family alike. Evelyn is preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Charles Wesley Cole and her son Wes Alan Cole who was 53 at the time of his death, sister L'Donna Trapp and brother, Leland Costley. Evelyn is survived by her daughter; Melanie Dawn Cooper and husband John Craig Cooper of Lake Jackson, daughter-in-love; Marguerite Cole of Houston, grandchildren; Michelle Cole and Wesley Cole with granddaughter-in-law-Jennifer Cole of Houston, Sarah Hebert with grandson-in-law James Hebert of Angleton, Tx and Evan Cooper of College Station, Tx. She is also survived by 4-great-grandchildren Mason Hebert, Jacob Hebert, Ethan Hebert and Lilianna Cole. Mom, grandma, and GG, as her great-grandchildren called her, will be sorely missed but knowing she had a relationship with her Lord and Savior reminds us that we will see her again one day. Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday January 31, 2019 in the Palms Funeral Home Chapel with Josh Pettijohn & Pastor Chris Moore officiating. Burial to follow in the Angleton Cemetery.
