Fred Vance Williamson

February 20, 1954 — May 31, 2019

Fred Vance Williamson, age 65, passed away on May 31st at his home in Danbury, Texas, surrounded by family. Fred was born February 20, 1954, to Bryan and Dixie Williamson at Hamilton AFB in San Rafael, California, but with Texas dirt sprinkled under him as insisted by his grandparents. His family lived in Tulsa, Oklahoma, for several years and moved to Angleton in 1967. Fred graduated from Sam Houston State University in 1978 with a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice. He worked at the Texas Department of Corrections in Huntsville as a guard before and after graduation and then as an adult probation officer for Wharton and Brazoria County. He would later become Chief Juvenile Probation Officer of Brazoria County for 18 years until retirement in 2005 and was instrumental in the starting one of the first Juvenile Justice Alternative Education programs in Texas. After retirement, he proudly served as mayor of Danbury for 4 years. Fred was known for his hard work, strength of character, compassionate leadership and was universally respected for his in-depth knowledge of juvenile justice. He taught many students as an Adjunct Professor of Criminology for several terms at Brazosport Junior College and served on the Brazoria County Juvenile Justice Board during his employment. His passions included golf, playing cards, softball with his daughters and grandkids, watching the Astros and Cowboys, exploring history, especially the Civil War era, listening to "good" music, such as Bob Dylan and The Beatles, and time spent with his family. A highlight of his life was making a memorable visit to Gettysburg with his family last year. This was a lifelong dream he was able to achieve. He will be remembered for his devotion as a husband and father, as well as his loving, fun personality and his strength in leadership that was admired by not only his family but by all those around him. He will be dearly missed by many. He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Janelle; his children, April and husband Clint Williams and Kaysie Hastings; his grandchildren, Reganne, Carley, Grace, Collin, Keira, Tristan, Drew, Kevin, and Kara; siblings, Susan and husband John Woods and Janis and husband Mike Burwell; and many dear relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Dixie and Bryan and uncle L.C. (Son) Williamson. Fred was also proud to have a lifelong circle of very close friends. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 4 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at the Community Baptist Church in Danbury. Funeral services will be held at the same location on Wednesday, June 5 at 11:00 am. In lieu of usual remembrances, donations can be made to the Friends of Danbury Civic Club, PO Box 457, Danbury, Texas. Service Details.
