Freida Merle White

After having lived an exemplary life of service to God, family, and community, Freida White passed away on June 19, 2019 at the age of 83. She was on born July 17, 1935 in Moody, TX to Thomas Jarrell and Ruby Welch Hayes, but lived in the small community of Whitehall, TX. In 1943, the family moved to Belton where Freida attended school. She graduated from Belton High School in 1951 at the age of 16. Freida attended Durham Business College in Austin, TX after which she worked in the accounting department of Montgomery Ward Department Store in Temple, TX. In 1956, she married Harold Wayne White of Belton and they soon established their home in Angleton, TX where they would remain for the duration of their lives. She was a member of the Angleton Church of Christ where she taught children's Bible classes for many years. Freida was a volunteer docent and curator of Malacology at the Brazosport Museum of Natural Science in Lake Jackson, Texas for many years. She was an avid student of conchology and played a significant role in the designation of the Lightning Whelk as the state shell of Texas by the 70th State Legislature. Freida is survived by two sons, David White (wife Cynthia) of Lake Jackson, TX and Doug White (wife Nicole) of Richmond, TX; two grandchildren, Curtis White (wife Sydni) of Hockley, TX and Laura White Ray (husband Joshua) of Lake Jackson, TX; and four great-grandchildren, Noelle Ray, Haddon Ray, Ainsley Ray and Lukas White. Other survivors include brothers Jarrell Hayes of Lake Livingston, TX and Calvin Hayes (wife Gayle) of Axtell, TX; and sister Shirley Hayes Hughes (husband Clifford) of Temple, TX along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and her sister-in-law, Peggy Carpenter Hayes. Funeral services will be at Palms Funeral Home in Angleton, TX on Tuesday, June 25 at 3:00 PM with a preceding visitation from 1:30 to 3:00 PM. A family graveside service is scheduled for Wednesday, June 26 at 12:00 PM at the North Belton Cemetery in Belton, TX. Pallbearers will be Curtis White, Joshua Ray, Kelvin Hayes, Eric Prokisch, Tommy Hayes, Michael Vincent, Tim Hammons, and Kim Smith.
