Gayla Lynn Black

February 2, 1948 — July 29, 2023

Gayla Lynn Black went to her new Heavenly home on July 29, 2023. She was born on February 4, 1948 in Ardmore, OK to her parents Troy and Pearl Howell. She was raised in southern Oklahoma but spent most of her adult life as a resident of Angleton, TX after her husband began a career at Dow Chemical.

She had been married to her husband, Richard "Rick" Black, nearly 47 years when he preceded her in death in 2013. She was also preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Beth Arthurs.

The Blacks raised their only child, Troy Black, in Angleton and were members of Second Baptist and Northway Baptist churches during their years there. Gayla was known as "Nani" to her two grandkids and enjoyed that role immensely. Before her husband passed, the coup0le loved to travel and camp all around the beautiful country together. She enjoyed country music and hobbies such as cross-stitch and painting.

Gayla leaves behind her son, Troy Black, and his wife Angie. Her grandchildren, Nick Black and Nichole Macik (husband Justin Macie), a new great granddaughter, Eden Marie Macik, and many nieces and nephews also survive her.

A remembrance gathering will be held in her honor at Northway Baptist Church in Angleton, Texas at 11:00 a.m. on August 9, 2023 with Pastor Aaron Pardue officiating.
