George Leonard Moore

Leonard Moore, 76, of Angleton, passed away June 24, 2012 in Cornerstone Hospital in Webster, Texas. Leonard was born October 3, 1935 in Rice, Texas to George and Myrtle Moore. He was one of nine children. In 1952 he met Mildred Morgan and they were married in 1953 at the age of eighteen. Together they had five children. In 1953 Leonard joined the United States Marine Corps during which time he was stationed in California and Japan. . While stationed in Japan, he was a member of the Marines' Boxing Team. After returning home from the service he worked for International Harvester and Texaco before going to work for H.L. Hunt and Sons. He worked for three of their companies, starting at Penrod Drilling Co., working in Louisiana on off-shore drilling rigs, then overseas in Brazil, Spain, France and New Zealand. When Penrod sold out he took early retirement and went to work for the Hunt's second company Horizontal Rentals, working in Gonzales and Bryan-College Station. When Horizontal sold out he went to work for Petro Hunt where he worked in West Texas until he took his second retirement. After his retirement he worked part-time as a Bailiff for The Honorable Pat Sebesta, Judge of the 239th District Court. Leonard was a strong soul having survived various types of cancer seven times. He was preceded in death by his parents George and Myrtle Moore, infant daughter Dena Deanne Moore, two brothers Boyd and Audie Moore, six sisters Lorene Pierce, Leona Spann, Audrey Pecha, Merle Jackson, Carolyn Dossey and Patsy Dutton. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mildred Moore, one son Billy Joe Moore, of Angleton, and daughters Debbie Selleck and husband Tom, of Angleton, Ronda Allison and husband Steve of West Columbia, and Micky Parten and husband Tom of Angleton. Leonard is also survived by fourteen grandchildren, Justin Minter and wife Heather, of Spurger, Texas, Chris Minter, Jarrett Harvey, Nolan, Payton, Juliana, Olivia, Angelica, Alexandra, Jeremy and Jessica Moore, Kaysie Nelson and husband Jady, and Katelyn Parten and Klark Parten all of Angleton, Texas, He is also survived by three great grandchildren, Jillian Harvey, of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and Riley and Lainey Minter of Spurger, Texas. Leonard is also survived by three step-grandchildren, David and Jamie Allison, Stephen and Rica Allison and Danielle and Devin Bennight, along with six step-great grandchildren, Riley Mattern and husband, Troy, Keaton Bennight, Max and Meiah Allison and Gavin and Kaleb Allison, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Leonard was a member of Greater Heights Baptist Association of Angleton, Texas. Leonard was the first president of the Brazoria County Coon Hunters Association. If there is coon hunting in Heaven that is where you will find Leonard tonight. An avid coon hunter he won many awards and made many friends, some . who have gone on before him and others he has left behind. Funeral Services are set for Friday, June 29,2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Palms Funeral Home in Angleton, Texas. Visitation will be Thursday, June 28, 2012 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Palms. Pallbearers are Hudson Flanagan, Lane Murphy, Denny McMillan, Adam Ramirez, Rodney Davis and Doug Cadenhead. Honorary Pallbearers are his grandsons Jarrett Harvey, Justin Minter, Chris Minter, Jeremy Moore and Klark Parten. Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Steve Ridings of Fresno, California.
