Gladys Ruby Marshall

February 26, 1927 — January 17, 2014

GLADYS RUBY MESSEC MARSHALL Gladys Ruby Messec Marshall was born to Archie Lee Messec and Carrie Louise Hartman Messec on February 26, 1927, in Houston, Texas. She passed away in Angleton, Texas, on January 17, 2014, at the age of 86. Gladys lived the first six years of her life in Houston, Texas. At the age of six, she, along with her parents and brother, Archie Lynn Messec, or "GeeGee", moved to Angleton. She loved school and couldn't wait to start. She went on to graduate in 1944. Gladys was married to Albert Marshall, Jr. on September 19, 1946. They resided in Brazoria, Palacios, Houston and Angleton for a total of 42 years, not counting a short stay in Cheyenne, Wyoming (her favorite), until retirement took them to Toledo Bend in 1988. During the years before retirement, Gladys worked for the State of Texas and Dow, but her longest tenure was with Brazoria County Welfare Department, having been made Director in 1974, and remained Director until retirement in 1989. Gladys and Junior were married for almost 55 years, when Junior passed away in 2001. They traveled across the United States two or three times during these years. After Junior died, Gladys moved back to Angleton and resided at the old home place of Long Pond until bad health took over in 2010. She was living at Country Village Care at the time of her death. Mom was an accomplished seamstress, avid reader and loved to work crossword puzzles. Her favorite pastime, though, was traveling, whenever she could and however she could. Her favorite line was always "I wonder where this road goes." Mom, you and Daddy are traveling down those endless roads together again. She is preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, Albert Marshall Jr.; her husband's parents, Albert Sr. and Alice Marshall. She is survived by sons, Lee Marshall and wife, Terri, of Beulah, Colorado; Matt Marshall and wife, Shelly, of Long Pond, Texas; daughter, Lynnda Clayton and husband, John, also of Long Pond, Texas. She is also survived by grandsons, Lee Marshall, Jr. of Tucson, Arizona; Michael Clayton and spouse, Izzy Garza, of Houston, Texas; Steve Clayton and wife, Monica, of West Columbia, Texas; Brandon Bush of Long Pond, TX; and granddaughters, Gretchen Larsen and husband, Cory, of Yuba City, California; Monica Bush and husband, Roy Biron, of Flagstaff, Arizona; great-grandchildren, Daniel Marshall, of Gautier, Mississippi; Jacob and Brady Clayton, of Katy, Texas; and Tony Clayton, of West Columbia, Texas. She is also survived by her brother, Archie Lynn Messec, of Danbury, Texas; nephew, Mark Messec, and wife, Sharon, of Angleton, Texas; niece, Terri Jackson, and husband, Rick, of Highland Village, Texas. Additionally, we, the family of Gladys Marshall, send out our heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the staff of Country Village Care and A - Med Hospice. Our mother had the most caring people looking after her and taking excellent care of her. We can't thank you enough.
