Harold Lester Clark

May 20, 1922 — August 22, 2013

Harold Lester Clark, 91, of Angleton passed away at his home after a short illness on August 22, 2013. Harold was born on May 20, 1922 to Claude and Pearl Clark. Harold grew up during the Depression years in a railroad family in San Saba, Texas. In his youth, he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps and helped build Park Road 4 at Inks Lake State Park. Well into the 1990's he and his wife Lula enjoyed gathering for CCC reunions. Harold served proudly in World War II. Initially, as a Military Police Corporal in the US Army Air Corps in charge of a 24 man platoon guarding aircraft destined for service overseas. Later on, he was transferred into The US Army Infantry where he saw action during the liberation of the Philippine Islands of Leyte and Mindanao in the Pacific Theater. For this service he was awarded two Bronze Stars among other decorations. After the war, he returned home to Angleton, where his father was pastoring a church. And it was there that he met, fell in love with and married the prettiest girl in Angleton, Lula Smith Clark. They were together for 63 years living all those years in a house built by he and his dad. Harold worked at Lee Motor Company as a parts manager for 25yrs and was appreciated for his honesty and integrity. He later worked for Sharpstown Dodge for a number of years prior to his retirement from the Brazoria County Courthouse maintenance department. Harold enjoyed growing vegetables, trees and flowers which were all abundant around his home. He especially enjoyed vacationing at Garner State Park with his family. He also had the ability to tell stories with a professional storyteller's zeal. In his later years, he enjoyed visiting neighbors in his golf cart, telling stories and watching old westerns. Harold had a vast knowledge and memory of Angleton's "golden years" - from the 40's through the 70's. A time when he literally knew everyone in town, who their parents were, where they lived and who their children married. Harold and Lula were very proud of all their children, grandchildren and great grand children. He would look for ways to "brag about them" - to someone who didn't know [or hadn't heard lately]. He has left many memories with those who knew him and passed on a legacy of personal excellence and honesty. Harold is preceded in death by his wife, Lula; his parents Claude and Pearl Clark; and his step mother Henrietta Clark. He is also survived by sons, Don Clark and wife, Pat, of Nacogdoches, Texas, and Jim Clark and wife, Rita of Angleton, Texas; daughters, Patsy Kelly and husband, Eugene, of Houston, Texas; and Janet DeMeyer and husband, Ron, of Canyon Lake, Texas; grandchildren, Heather Yeargan and husband, Shane, of New York, New York, Katie Clark of Austin, Texas, Emily Clark of Fort Thomas, Kentucky, Todd Clark of College Station, Texas, Jennifer Martinez and husband, Chris, of College Station, TX, George Kenney Jr. of College Station, TX, Kimberlyn Everett and husband, Mike, of Lago Vista, Texas, Kyle Kelly of Houston, Texas, and Melanie DeMeyer and Ray Knebel of Canyon Lake, Texas; great-grandchildren, Moses and Isaac Barnes and Arianna Martinez of College Station, Texas, Brooke and Claire Everett of Lago Vista, Texas, along with honorary son, Leslie Bryson of Angleton.
