Helen E. Brittain, 92, returned to her heavenly home on November 30, 2017. Her focus on family and friends reinforced with a belief in God daily gave her peace and strength until she was called home. She was born in Houston, TX on June 24, 1925 to the late Sylvester and Ruth Smith. She was married in Danbury, TX to Reginald E. Brittain Sr. on June 27, 1943. Vows were exchanged under the old oak tree on 6th Street and Ave F. Helen and Reginald moved to Danbury in 1953 where they took over Smiths Meat Market and began managing Brittain's grocery store and meat market. They decided to leave the grocery store in 1966, when Reginald began a new career and Helen continued to remain active in her local community. She was a charter member of the Angleton/Danbury Hospital Auxiliary beginning in 1969 and remained a key member until 1995. She also contributed to the Danbury community by devoting her time as a Brownie and Girl Scout Leader, a volunteer at the Danbury Library, member of the ladies auxiliary of the American Legion as well as giving time to substitute teach at Danbury ISD. She was blessed with a large and loving family. Helen and Reginald raised their two children, Marcella and Reginald Jr in Danbury, TX. Helen (lovingly known to all of us Granny B) was very involved in the raising and routing of 3 grandsons. Her grandmother wisdom and experience was relied upon constantly in raising 15 great grandkids and 4 great great grandkids. Helens love and devotion will always be remembered every time our family gathers from her "magical candy dish" that never seemed to go empty to her "creative recipes" that we were never sure what ingredients she had whipped together and always counting on her for a heated game of cards. Helen is survived by her daughter and son in law, Marcella and George Thompson, her grandsons and spouses Trevor, Clint and April, Blaine and Heidi, her great grandchildren, Cody, Ashleigh, Kevin, Kara, Abbie, Evan, Reganne, Carley, Payton, Grace, Collin, Aaron, Pricilla, Lilly and Drew and her great great grandchildren, Ashton, Ava, Aubrey and Cayden. As well as number of nieces, nephews and cousins. Helens life will be remembered and celebrated at Palms Funeral home with a public visitation from 10-11:00 a.m. and a Funeral Service conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 2, 2017 and buried in Washington Cemetery of Houston at 1:00 p.m. December 2,2017.
