Howard Wayne Heckethorn passed away on Sunday, January 12, 2025, at the age of 80. Howard was born on May 12, 1944, in Des Moines, Iowa to Byron and Mildred Knutson Heckethorn. Howard was married on June 23, 1973, to Lois Jean Carter.
Howard graduated from Carroll High School in Corpus Christi, Texas. He earned a degree in General Engineering from Texas A&I University (now Texas A&M University) in Kingsville, TEXAS. Howard worked in the carbon black industry all over the world as Chief Engineer for Witco and Continental Carbon. After retirement he enjoyed playing and hosting dominos with friends. He was a season ticket holder to the Clarion and Brazosport College of Fine Arts where he regularly attended events. Howard loved traveling and was a curator of knowledge. Howard enjoyed telling others about the importance of Pi and celebrated Pi Day on 3.14 every year. Howard designed a magic square which he titled “Magic Squares and Mankind” and was very proud to have recently received a copyright for his work.
Howard was preceded in death by his wife, Lois.
Howard is survived by son, Shane Heckethorn and husband, Jim Barnes of Holyoke, Massachusetts; daughter, Pamela Parsons and husband, Cameron of Angleton, Texas; daughter, Shelly McArthur and husband, Graham; daughter, Leslie Branson;sister-in-law, Barbara Hiroms of Brazoria; grandchildren, Carter Heckethorn, Dax Parsons, Mathew Heckethorn-Barnes, Joel Barnes, Ethan Jaramillo, Shannon Brickley; and numerous great grandchildren.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Palms Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held the following day on Thursday, January 16, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. with burial to follow in Brazoria Cemetery with Andrew McDaniel officiating. Pallbearers will be Shane Heckethorn, Cameron Parsons, Carter Heckethorn, Dax Parsons, Ethan Jaramillo, and Kevin Hiroms.
