Howard Goodloe Purnell, Sr. M.D. Howard Goodloe Purnell Sr. M.D., 88, of Houston, Texas passed away, Monday, August 18, 2014 in Kingsland, Texas. Services will be on, Thursday, August 21, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Willow Drive Baptist Church. Burial will be at Angleton Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. A visitation will start at 9:00 a.m. until service time also at Willow Drive Baptist Church in Lake Jackson, Texas with a reception following for family and friends at the church. He was the first Eagle Scout in Angleton. He served in the United States Air Corp. and was baptized at First Baptist Church in Angleton. He was a member of the Champion Forest Baptist choir and had an Amway business for 20 years, as well as Tejas Arabians. He ran on the track team for Angleton High School and the University of Texas. Dr. Purnell was from a very sports oriented family for which Purnell Relays are named after. Dr. Purnell practiced medicine with his brother for over 50 years. He was a founding Physician of Sam Houston Hospital. He was the first team Doctor at Spring Branch High School, Magnolia, and for Golden Gloves Boxing. Dr. Purnell was preceded in death by his parents: Guy & Ruth Purnell, daughter, Donna Purnell, and brothers; Jack, Guy (Dixie), and Fred (Norma) Purnell. Dr. Purnell is survived by his wife: Billye Purnell, sons; Howard Purnell Jr. (Barb), Tim Purnell, and Robert Purnell (Melody), daughter, Tanya Purnell McCutcheon (Darrel), granddaughters; Jessica, Brittani, Heather, and Stephanie Purnell, grandson, Damian McCutcheon, and great-grandpuppies; Abby, Allie, and Maximus. In lieu of flowers please make donations in his name to an Alzheimer's Association or charity of your choice.
