Hubert Ray Pruitt

November 18, 1939 — January 3, 2018

Hubert Ray Pruitt, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away at Houston Methodist St. John Hospital on January 3, 2018, after a lengthy battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, January 21 at the American Legion Hall, 1021 South Hwy 288 B, Angleton. Ray was born November 18, 1939 in Marion, VA, to Edward Martin and Enice Dolinger Pruitt. After serving 20 years (1959-1979) in the US Army, Ray moved his family to Angleton and began work at Collins Instrument Company. On May 26, 2001, Ray married Rita F. LeBeau and made Danbury his home. Ray was a member of Greater Heights Baptist Fellowship and the American Legion Charles Dixon Post 241 in Angleton. Ray was the Post Chaplain for several years and loved sharing the story of The Four Chaplains, forgotten heroes, who gave their lives to save other civilian and military personnel as a troop ship sank on Feb. 3, 1943 during World War II. The discipline and patriotism he learned in the Army never left him as friends and family will attest. He was a soldier for life. Ray enjoyed doing woodwork projects, connecting with family and friends, and loved telling stories to everyone. He is preceded in death by his parents, his previous wife, Betty Stewart Pruitt; their infant son, Ethan Pruitt; former father-in-law, Curtis Stewart; stepson, Robert LeBeau; and sister, Carol Adams. Ray is survived by his wife, Rita LeBeau Pruitt; children: Travis Pruitt (Trisha), Coby Pruitt (Misti), Patricia Gonzalez, Robert Boothe; step-children: Rick LeBeau (Sharon), Cheryl LeBeau Roberts (Curtis).and nine grandchildren; sister, Peggy Peak and brother, Jerry (Frances) Pruitt; brother-in-law, Jim Plummer; former mother-in-law, Mary Stewart; also aunts and uncle; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
