Ima Jean Smith passed into the arms of her Lord and Savior on June 26, 2024. She was born October 1, 1934 in Rotan, Texas to Theodore and Rosa Mooney. She was the youngest of 5 girls and as she said, “we were poor but didn’t know it because everyone we knew was poor.” She married Dave “Frank” Smith on September 22, 1950. She went to beauty school in the early 1960s in Freeport, Texas and Ima Jean, SUPER HAIRDRESSER was created. She turned our car garage at the house on Chenango into a beauty shop and a career was made. She had the lowest prices in town and a clientele that some stuck with her for over 60 years. She was known to help her customers by driving miles to pick them up and take them home after she fixed their hair. She and Frank were very giving people. Family, friends, and people that were down and out, received money, labor, counseling, and prayers from them both. There were recipients of their generosity that they barely knew. Anyone that needed help could depend on her. Along with her extremely giving heart, Ima could have a sharp tongue. She was very quick to defend her family, friends, and the less fortunate. She believed that the fortunate should help the less fortunate, which she led by example.
She had a strong spiritual faith and was highly active in her church. She was a Sunday School teacher and would work the entire week at times on her lesson. She believes that Jesus was the son of God, put on this earth to shed his blood so we humans could be forgiven of our sins. She believed in a loving, forgiving God.
She was preceded in physical death by her husband Frank; son, Bruce Smith; daughter, Gail White; and grandson Brent Smith. She loved and is survived in this physical realm by daughter, Melody Jacobsen (Ray) and son, Blake Smith (Susan). A legacy of grandchildren, Stephen Jacobsen, Cassandra Martindale (Ron), Jeff White (Saskia), Justin White, April Carpenter (Craig), and Ryan Smith (Dede). Bonus Grandchildren, Laura Whearley (Hunter), and Hannah Cox.
