J. C. 'Jay' Brockman

Romans 8:28 John Clarence "Jay" Brockman, 86, of Angleton, TX joined the heavenly chorus on May 22, 2014. Survived by: His loving wife of 65 years, Roberta Gray "Perk" Brockman, Sister: Billie Arnold, Children: John Brockman and wife, Janice , Mollie LeMoine, Mac Brockman and wife, Beth, Sara Bouse and husband, Andy; Grandchildren: Jay Brockman and wife Christy, Jolie Kremser, and husband, Johnathon, Don Brockman, Ben Brockman and wife, Allison, Anne Marie Adair and husband, Steve, John LeMoine, JC Bouse and wife, Cheyenne, Sid Bouse, Jennifer Bouse, 6 Great Grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Preceded in death by: His Parents: John Creel and Willie Grey Brockman, Sisters and Brothers-in-law: Mary Louise and Archie Haggard; Eleanor and Fred Barton; Gene Arnold; Great-grandson, Eli Case Bouse. "Jay" was first and foremost a faithful and loving servant of the Lord. He attended Boling High School and Abilene Christian College. He served as a Master Sergeant during WWII. He left college in Abilene to come back to Brazoria County to help with the family clothing business in West Columbia. He married his bride of 65 years, Roberta Niblack in 1949. Involved in the church and community his whole life, he was a church elder, a trustee on the board of Abilene Christian University, the President Texas Retailers Association, a trustee on Angleton ISD School Board, and a commissioner for the Port of Freeport. He served as the Angleton Chamber of Commerce President, Brazoria County United Way President, and the Angleton Rotary Club President, where he touted 56 years of perfect attendance. One of Jay's final community service roles was with the Angleton for Better Living Committee that worked to pass the 403B tax and helped to build the Angleton Rec Center. Dad, Uncle Jay, Daddy Jay, Mr. Brockman… many names, many hats all of a Godly man who loved his Lord, his family and his community. He gave of his time, his talents and his resources to many. He loved to sing and brag about his grandchildren. He was known in Wildcat Stadium as the "Everybody Up" guy. He was an entrepreneur, business owner and employer to many. Jay enjoyed deer hunting with the family, seashell hunting with Perk. He was an avid photographer and loved to play golf. Special thanks to the staff of Amed Hospice and Country Village for their special care over the past year. A Celebration of His life will be held Saturday, May 31st at 10 am at the Angleton Church of Christ. Family visitation will follow the service in the church multipurpose room. Burial will be at 2pm at the Sweeny Cemetery. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers; Honorary pallbearers include Alfred Thane and the Elders of the Angleton Church of Christ.
