Jack Hershell Moore, age 88, formerly of Columbia Lakes in West Columbia TX. Passed away Tuesday October 2, 2012 at West Houston Medical Center in Houston TX with his son and daughter by his side. Jack was born June 7, 1924 in Canton Texas. Son of Jeward Jefferson and Jane (Swinney) Moore, brother of Ann Westmoreland, and beloved husband of Betty (Peterson) Moore, all of whom preceded him in death. During the course of his career, Jack worked for Dow Chemical in various positions in Texas Division, Dow corporate in Michigan, and finished his career as Safety Director for Oyster Creek Division. He was a long-time resident of Freeport TX where he served as President of the Lions Club. An avid runner, his retirement activities included participating in seniors races, highlighted by a ninth-place finish in the National Senior Olympics. Also an avid golfer, he finished his golfing career with five holes-in-one. In 2011 he was a proud participant in the Dow Freedom Flight to Washington DC, which honored WWII combat veterans. He enjoyed hunting with his brother, playing poker and dominoes with his friends, and telling jokes and stories with a beer or a bourbon in hand. He loved his family and was very proud of his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his son and wife, Jerry and Karen Moore; daughter and husband, Sherry and David Peek; granddaughter Christina Peek; grandson and wife Tracy and Roxie Peek, great-grandson Jack, and great-granddaughter Katherine, and by his brother Jeff. Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday October 5, 2012 at Bethel Presbyterian Church in East Columbia with Pastor Jim Gentner officiating. Interment will be in Canton TX on Saturday October 6.
