James Roger "Jack, Jim, Jimmy, J.R., Dad, Grandpa, Pawpaw" Geissen, 90, of Danbury, Texas, passed away on December 11, 2024, in Angleton, Texas.
Jack was born on November 8, 1934, in Danbury, Texas, to Henry William and Julia Elizabeth (Kloda) Geissen. A lifelong resident of Danbury, Jack graduated from Danbury High School in 1953.
He proudly served his country in the United States Army from March 1957 to March 1959, spending most of his time stationed in Böblingen, Germany. Jack continued his service in the United States Army Reserves until his Honorable Discharge in April 1963. He achieved the rank of Specialist and loved being a cook in the Army.
On November 9, 1963, Jack married the love of his life, Teresa Louise Webber, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Hitchcock, Texas. Their union marked the beginning of a life full of love, hard work, and devotion to one another. Jack often referred to Teresa as “the love of his life,” and their enduring partnership was the foundation of his happiness.
From a young age, Jack worked alongside his father and brother Robert on the family farm, where he spent many years farming rice, cotton, soybeans, and milo. Later, Jack, Teresa, and their eldest son, Phillip, moved to Moulton, Texas, to begin a new chapter as commercial egg farmers. After retiring from the egg business, Jack returned to Danbury, where he continued to be an active presence in his community and remained a lifelong dedicated cattle rancher until just a few years ago.
He was affectionately known as the “Sheriff of CR 207,” patrolling on his 4-wheeler, golf cart or Mule, always keeping a watchful eye on his neighborhood and enjoying countless conversations with the ‘locals’. He loved “riding around the fields” to check on the progress of Vince’s crops. Even in the very last days when not much of anything was really making any sense “riding around the fields” was still on the forefront of his mind.
Jack had many fond memories and years spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He helped shape them into what they are today. He showed them his love of farming by tending to his cattle, driving his tractors and his mule. Jack always said he was just a “dumb farmer that went around and around in circles”, but in his lifetime he accomplished much more than being a farmer.
Grandpa taught by example. His patience and work ethic left an indelible mark on those lucky enough to learn from him. Above all, he cherished time with his grandkids and enjoyed watching them grow. He helped them to grow stronger and more true than even the best year’s rice harvest.
Jack was a proud Charter Member of the Angleton Knights of Columbus, and his faith and commitment to service were at the heart of everything he did. He found great joy in working the midnight shift at the church picnic, making BBQ, and later transitioning to the day shift, where he relished the fellowship around the pits with his friends and fellow parishioners.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Julia Geissen; his son, Matthew Geissen; and his brothers, Alfred and Robert Geissen.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Teresa Geissen; his children: Phillip Geissen (Gernadette) of Moulton, Jackie Lander (Bill), Julie Geissen (Joe) all of Danbury and Gaschen Geissen (Shanna) of Alvin; his grandchildren: Lawton Lander (Brenna) of Bryan, Garrett Geissen of Needville, Hayden Lander of Champaign, IL, Grant Geissen of Moulton, Gunnar Lander of Sandia, Ayden Geissen, and Peyton Geissen both of Alvin; his great-grandchildren: Blaire and James Lander; and numerous extended family members and friends who were deeply touched by his presence.
Visitation will be held at 3:00 p.m. with the Rosary following at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 15, 2024, at Palms Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, December 16, 2024, at St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church in Danbury.
The family wanted to express their sincere thanks to Country Village Care of Angleton and their wonderful staff for the care and compassion they had for their father and husband.
