James M. Gaubatz

James Maurice Gaubatz, of Angleton, passed in peace on July 31, 2018 at the age of 92. He was born July 7, 1926, in Weesatche, TX and attended Goliad High School. After high school, James served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II supporting the occupation forces in Germany. He attended Business College in Arkansas and later spent his working career as a Plant Operator at Dow Chemical Company, from where he retired in 1990 with 39 years of service. Throughout his life, James enjoyed bowling, carpentry, fishing and watching the Astros, but he especially enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. James was preceded in death by his father, Albert Gaubatz, mother Lillian Steffan Gaubatz, stepmother Naomi Bounds Gaubatz and wife, LaNelle Mitchell Gaubatz and wife, Virginia Coots Gaubatz. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Maurice Gaubatz and Melissa Stover Gaubatz of Colorado Springs, and grandchildren Naish, Elise and Julia Gaubatz along with his daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Tim Benhardt of Angleton, granddaughter Chelsea Bui and husband, Michael Bui, grandson Dalton Benhardt and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, John Gaubatz, and sister, Sonya Reeves. The family will receive visitors at Palms Funeral Home in Angleton on Monday, August 6 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Angleton on Tuesday, August 7 at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow immediately after the service at Angleton Cemetery.
