James Olvin Wood, 91, of Angleton passed away peacefully Thursday, October 4, 2018 surrounded by his family in his home. Funeral Services are scheduled for 1:00 Tuesday, October 9, 2018 at Church of Christ in Angleton with Leland Rodgers officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 5-7 at Palms. Burial to follow in Angleton Cemetery. James was also known as Jo, Uncle Jim, and Papa. He was a World War 2 veteran. Served as a Sargent in the United States Army, stationed in the Philippines and Okinawa. After his return he was a mountain climbing instructor at Camp Carson, CO. He was an active member of the Church of Christ for 54 years and was a Dow retiree of 34 years. He was very involved in his two son's activities and was a part of Troop 13 Boy scouts as an Assisted Scout Leader for 8 years. Papa was a loving, kind, stern, God loving man and was the kind of man that would give the shirt off his back to a loved one or a complete stranger. Papa loved cooking and it gave him absolute joy to pass that knowledge off to his kids and grandkids. As a man, papa was well respected among his coworkers and congregation, but as a father, grandfather, great grandfather he was second to none. As everyone knows god and family was his life and the love he showed everyone throughout his 91 years will surely be remembered James was born October 3, 1927 in Houston, Texas to Olvin Redd & Fannie Pearl Wood but, raised by his Ma Monroe "Bud" Younts & Iona Younts. He was preceded in death by his parents, his Ma & Pa, sisters; Dorothy Moller, Doris Richey Durdin, May Bennett, Eva Bell Coppin also known as Sister, brothers; Arther "OTT" Younts, Homer "Toby" Younts, Albert "Kooch" Younts, and Tom Younts. Survivors include his wife of 70 years Barbara Joy Barkley Wood, his sons; Ronald David Wood and wife Sharon, and James Wilson Wood, grandchildren; Barbara Louise MacBrohn and husband Jeromie, Ronald David Wood II and wife Jenny Lynn, James Ryan Wood, Natalie Marie Evans and husband Jonathan, great-grandchildren; James & Jacob MacBrohn, Brooklyn, Hailee, & Ember Wood, Tyler Barker, Blaine & Easton Evans. James is also survived by his "adopted children"; ElRey Tinnin, Katherine Hadley, Jenny Dreyer, nieces and nephews; Gwen Dickman Foley, Betty Ann Richie Lowe, Thomas James Smith, and Jerry Richie. Pallbearers will be ElRey Tinnin, Hoyt Lowe, James Ryan Wood, Ronald David Wood II, and Tyler Sebastian Barker. David Johnson.
